after reading about the right wing protests outside govt. i am heartened to see that the protests were shot to hell and looks like the equality bill will come into place. for once the majority of posts on the hys board has not raised my blood pressure but made me smile. there were only a few posts i took issue but most were in favour of keeping the regulations and allowing further steps in the fight for equality because for all i know that the lgbt community have "never had it so good" i still feel there are a ways to go.

With regards to the HYS page I was talking about that will be long gone - they change subjects every day or so. But the BBC should have plenty of articles on this. The general idea is that the LGBT community should be able to use hotels and b&b's just like the breeders and not be turned away or not alocated a double bed. The religious right went up in arms that they would be forced to serve yucky gays. They protested but as far as I know it did bugger all and soon it should be the case that it will be illegal to deny services (be it in a shop or hotel or getting a taxi etc) to anyone on the basis of their sexuality.

Aaah it was the services discrimination policy thing, I just couldn't be sure. Damn right it was illegal - people may have views and beliefs and they are entitled to them, but there are discrimination laws in place for allsorts and they are universal, so why not for the LGBT community as well? I know we don't have to frequent places that aren't LGBT friendly, but sometimes there just isn't the option.

It's the argument put that there are places you can go that annoy me. In the American south and South Africa there were places black people could go too. That did not make banning them from other places and services right.
There are no 'no blacks, no irish, no catholics' signs allowed anymore (outside churches or otherwise) so why should they be allowed 'no gays?'

At least we're lucky enough that power over criminal law for most of the UK is still held by Westminster - if devolution happens any more then quite frankly we're screwed in some places.
