Small note. Don't want to detract from the good line-up our committee have put together, but I feel obliged as Chattan's resident DJ to point some of our noobies in the direction of the traditional Rocksoc gathering on Thursday. 8pm-1am... awesome music, lots of drunkeness and above all good old fashioned rock and roll fun.

You may want to make a stop at the Cocktail Party just to get things 'warmed up' though. ;)

Tight jeans, an expensive haircut and a MySpace account does not make you emo!

Best plan - pre-gaming in McIntosh and then on to Rocksoc...

Yus!

That's the way it's done.

This sounds so good even I may be unable to resist the RockSoc goodness. Though I will still be G-ing up for Saturday (see what I did there?)

Good show Simon. I know as well as anyone that you dislike rocksoc. But fear not, I'm sure Jez'll provide a set of earplugs, in return for you acting as the de-facto Dancing pole on thursday.

I will be at Rocksoc, I finally have semi-decent headbanging hair again (by which I mean it moves). Plus, I just like wearing lots and lots of black while drinking vodka.

I think I'm going to hunt down some sweetcorn and an empty cob just so I can spend the time glueing them back together... Either that or I'll be somewhere with all the normal people... NO... wait... normal people?... St Andrews? HAHAHAHA

Basically, just.no.

Oh, how bitchy. Think about it... while you're doing that, I'll be having fun! Glorious, unpretentious fun. Whereas all you'll have is an adhesive-covered sweetcorn cob, sticky fingers and nothing to show for it, so to speak.

And you'll have your dignity, I suppose. But I sold mine to the devil a long time ago.

I didn't know, or indeed care, that Gina G was still alive. However, now that I know she is and is playing fresher's week, I guess I'll have to just... ignore it?

Of course, there was a good band on last year, Alamos (had been played on mtv2 a few times), but they got the amount of advertising in St Andrews as you'd expect from a snow sale in the Antarctic. About 40-odd people showed up in the venue 1 bar area, and about 15 of them were the support acts and crew...

Anyway, a bit off topic. I think I might join Alex in a bit of corn-cob gluing. Or alternatively, trying to invent a new game involving some of that coloured absinthe Leily's got. Oh, and of course trying to recruit some academic kids for the Alex generation, I need meself some brothers and sisters. Apply within.

Yeah I know, even further off topic. So back on it... if someone's got a couple of frisbees I could use em for the beach games (got a football and american football). Maybe a length of rope (but that might just be for a night in... i dunno). Might even be able to get a bit of beach cricket going. Sorry to disappoint but I don't think bandstanding comes under the jurisdiction of beach games.

Lack of advertising??? As I remember it, I couldn't take a piss in the union without being reminded about the Daily lineup. Mind you, by your own admission you were continually drunk over the entire 10 days last year.

I wasn't at the concert. I went to Rocksoc at Instead. It sucked donkey balls (Read: I wasn't drunk enough). I don't know about anyone else, but by Thursday, I saw no need to be hearded around from one event of organised-fun to the next by the Union or anyone else.

Could be wrong here but I think skip was referring to a band that played in May or there abouts, but not in freshers week...it was not well advertised as he says. They were pretty good. The support was rank though

The Fresher's Week acts last year sucked balls! Fucking Tim Westwood and Tiffany!! (NO not together... that might have been worth watching...)

The Alamos played in 2nd Semester and the only reason we knew about it was cos we wandered into the Union on the night in question. (Small aside... I may be wrong seeing as I bailed pretty early on, but weren't the Automatic supporting? Or did I just imagine that?)

I can't believe that Snow Patrol played here and in the 3 successive years the best anyone's come up with is Coolio! And that wasn't even during Freshers' Week!!

Pretty sure it wasn't The Automatic... the ones supporting weren't really that good, though one of the singers in one of them did sound like the guy who does the higher bits of Monster. As far as I remember he's not the lead, and he was for the Alamos support (unless they got someone else in... I actually said at the time they'd have been pretty good with a main singer in)

And I wasn't talking about freshers... if Alamos had had the type of advertising most of the bands in freshers week had they might have half-filled (at least) venue 1, and had better acoustics going.

Rocksoc in fresher's week was awesome! (Read: I don't remember much of it) You obviously just don't know your stuff there fella (side note: working at a rock night in Sunderland, Rocksoc is so much better... and more naked chicks)

Ah right, wrong band. Who were the guys that played at freshers week then?

Ah well, aside from freshers week, union advertising was pretty appaling. The best Ad Campaign the union ever managed to organise was advertising David Bean's existence.
