Library Update

Postby RobFett on Mon Oct 09, 2006 11:21 pm

Here's a little update of what's going on:

-For those of you who don't know, there is a book sale in the library for slightly damaged books...you might pick up a bargain (it's by the express work stations on the first floor).

-The library is in contact with the software company about sorting out the short loan/booking problem. It's a long process because all libraries who use the same software would have to have the same update.

-The library has organised with the publisher Pearson for 5 texbooks to be available online for purchase (cheaper than hard copies). Go to http://www.jscampus.co.uk and choose St Andrews in the drop down menu on the right. Hopefully more titles will come shortly!

-If the books on your reading list are not availble in the library IT IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE LIBRARY. Complain and moan, and complain some more to your lecturer because most likely it is their fault for not getting the reading list in on time (they were supposed to be in in JUNE, some lecturers are still bringing them in NOW)!

-If you are getting error messages in WebCT then click on "Browser Checker" at the top of the screen once you have logged in. If you don't have green ticks by everything then follow the instructions.

-ITS will hopefully soon install network points to some of the new digital copiers. This will allow you to scan in books and then email them so you can read them from the comfort of your own home without wasting trees.

-There is a good chance that we will be getting a Mac (yes, you did read that right!!!) express workstation cluster for the main library and the physics/maths library.

-There is a fully staffed inquiry desk available 10:00 - 16:00.

-If there is a journal/core text which isn't available online then speak to the nice ladies at the short loans section and they will do their very best to get it scanned in really quickly!

-The library is about to appoint 2 Academic Liaison Librarians who will be highly qualified. They will liase with schools (one for Arts & Divinity, the other for Science & Medicine) to make sure you have all the books, journals etc you need.

-There are many ways to comment on the library. You can either visit http://www-library.st-andrews.ac.uk/contact_us/ or fill out a comment form and put it in the box (which will arrive soon) or email me at RPF3 and I will chase up the issue on your behalf.
