How wonderfully convenient. Top marks to EOC types everywhere.

Oh no, this throws up too many questions:

-- Who is 'Dalek'?

-- Why does Malcolm Collins have an 'M' after his name?

-- If Chris Zegel and Jessica Siegel got married, would they become the Zegel-Siegels??

Sorry for the unregistered posting, but I can't remember my sinner username or details... oops.

Just wondering what the (M) meant after Malcolm Collins who is going for Association president.

As for Dalek... is that a real facebookable person?!

The names that are in the tables on the website are exactly how the candidates name will appear on the ballot.

We were asked to include (M) behind that Malcolm Collins name.

Dalek is the name one particular student has chosen to run under- however the student's real name eludes me at this late hour.

It's not Dave Ross, is it?

A Dalek, presumably. They're all really rather similar.

-- Why does Malcolm Collins have an 'M' after his name?

I've been wondering this. 'Male'? 'Medium'? 'Monkey'? 'Mancunian'? 'Mediocre'? 'Moldovan'?

-- If Chris Zegel and Jessica Siegel got married, would they become the Zegel-Siegels??

Why yes, I believe they would. But this would create an unholy union of debating thesps who wouldn't be able to make a speech without rehearsing it or perform a play that didn't have three main points and then the whole world would implode. Or explode.

Why not put R.O.N. on the listings just so that every one knows that it is an option, and they will not get a shock when they see the actual ballot...

I can't help thinking that the Students' Association is in no position to complain that many students don't take the elections seriously when the Students' Association doesn't seem to take the elections too seriously itself.

I've always said, If you don't have a laugh with something, there's no point doing it!

Now some people weren't happy about the content of that last post. And we can't have someone not happy. Not on the internet.

Oh I've got nothing against people having a laugh during the elections or even joke candidates standing. Hell, some of the best candidates in the past were "joke" ones. I just don't like this new trend of people being allowed to stand under assumed names. It just doesn't seem right. Especially for those positions that sit on SAB. On one hand the Association is building up the serious and responsible nature of those posts, and on the other is letting people stand under assumed names.

Al I think you're overcomplicating the matter - the joke candidates *have* to have a real person's name behind them, but this doesn't necessarily mean that the real person is seriously running for the position.

The epic majority of students are aware that the elections (particularly, as you say, for SAB) are a serious undertaking and that the joke candidates are a sideshow.

If a real candidate were to lose to a joke candidate then I'd say the public have done themselves a favour - if a Dalek can muster more support than a human being then the human probably wouldn't have been much of a President.

Technically we have RON to ensure no one can be in an uncontested race. RON always contests elections.

Wow, some surprises! SSC Debates Officer - never in a million years saw that one coming.

Over all, though, I'm just depressed about the number of candidates I've never heard of. Ah well - hopefully that will change next week! :)

Are the candidates' statements and Declaratons of Interests going to be put up on the elections mini-site as promised or not?
