first year latin? classical studies?

can anyone tell me about first year latin at the beginner's level or classical studies. i've heard good things about the school of classics itself but not about the individual subjects. thanks a lot!

Didn't do Latin, but I am about to enter my final year of study in Classical Studies. I found the first year modules to be fantastic. In first semester you study the plays of Aristophanes, Horace's satires and Ovid's erotic poems against their contemporary backdrop. In second semester you will read the Odyssey, the Aeneid and the tragedies of Seneca and Euripides. One half of the semester will be spent focussing on Greece, and the second half on Rome.

The course structure may not be exactly the same as it was when I was in first year, but that's how I remember it! It really is a fantastic department, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Hey! I'm doing Latin, and the Classics department is fantastic. Latin was definitely my favourite subject last year (first year). If you like Latin in high school, you'll enjoy it in the first year.

i'm thinking about doing latin as one of my other 2 subjects in first year (i'm on the medieval history and archaeology course) - which texts do you study? what are the modules for ppl who've done a-level latin like?
