Not the OP but someone else with a Linguistics Q - is it worth taking linguistics as an option if you did English Language at A Level? Because the first year modules seem to be an 'introduction to linguistics' and I didn't know if they'd be challenging enough.

I've got both higher and advanced higher grades in English, and will be studying it when i come to st andrews - i also plan on taking social anthropology and Linguistics - and don't expect the latter to be useless even though I will be and have done English.

I expect it to be very interesting!
