Buses from the airport?

Postby juljanka on Sun Jun 24, 2007 4:46 pm

What does the whole thing with coming to the uni look like? I mean does the uni provide any buses from the nearby airports? If so, on what basis and what airports?

Thanks in advance!

The university runs buses on the Saturday and Sunday (at least) of freshers week from Edinburgh Airport to St Andrews. I believe you have to sign up for this in advance - more information will be on the freshers week web site when it's launched later in the summer.

I fly to edinburgh airport during the holidays and ive tried various ways of getting to and from there and St. A's, but ive found the easiest and most cost effective method is to use the 100 to get to Haymarket Station, then train to leuchars, and get the 99 from Leuchars to St Andrews. Of course, if you can afford it, the quickest way is to get a taxi, but you are looking at around £50 one way which is stupid money.

Why didn't anyone tell me about that bus service sooner??

You can also try St Andrews direct. It's convenient and cheaper than booking your own taxi if you don't know other people to share a ride with. I think the website is standrewsdirect.com, if not you can find it on Google.

There's also another bus from Edinburgh Airport that takes you to Inverkeithing (saving you having to go into Edinburgh and back out again), where you can get the train up to Leuchars. Makes things a bit more direct.

I used to use the bus-train-bus system, but now I largely prefer St. Andrews Direct. If you book in advance it comes out to be only £2-3 more expensive than the longer route, which is really worth how much more convenient it is.

There are buses from Glasgow to St Andrews, so you should be alright for that. http://www.stagecoachbus.com has the timetables.

glasgow's easy - there are buses all the time from the airport to buchanan bus station, then just hop on the x24 to st andrews.
