Single gender unless there has been a drastic change this year. It's mixed after first year though.

But if you want, you can still invite boys into your flat.
And if you don't there's a lock on the door.

Speaking of that - do you know if the loft doors will be open in the Fife Park houses the first day back (all my kitchen stuff is in the wrong house loft from when I was working and I need to move it - plus I have stuff in the loft of the house I'm actually going to be in. At least, I hope I do, unless it got chucked out)

Hmm they should be open (I'm assuming you mean the attic door at one end of the upstairs corridor). If not it's easily fixed with a call to reception, porters usually walk around with a Fife park master key that opens any door.

I was wondering why fife park only has a poor old master key but DRA has a GRAND master key the other day, seems a bit snobbish really.

I've seen a place that has Master Key A, Master Key B, Master Key C etc.

If there's a door that Master Key A opens but Master Key B doesn't, surely that means that they're not actually master keys. They're just keys.

It's for fundamental questions like that which I'm glad we have the Sinner for.

Then there's Albany - stuck with just one master key-card for the whole place. At least Fife has proper keys, not those bits of plastic that get lost and go void, and get broken.

Master Keys

Postby double-dipper on Thu Sep 11, 2008 12:04 am

DRA has several different master keys for various users and purposes. Grand Master does everything. Service Level A (master) opens everything in the building bar studios, level B does only front doors, level C does only the main front. Studio master does studios and main front doors. Facilities Building master does the Facilities Building. Then there are masters for Managers, Housekeeping Supervisers, Porters, various Wardennial staff etc. which have varying levels of access. And then there are all the various cupbooard keys...
I believe Fife Park attics are on the 250 (or 3 to give it its new name) key, not sure if they're on Fife Park master.
Albany has different master key cards - not all the masters do everywhere (e.g. the office).

If there was a key that would get you into any door in the university, would that be the Imperial Grand Master Key?

I expect so. It could disappear now, but then you'd never see this reply, and that would be no fun.
