I think we should always keep in mind the following:
Firstly, The Saint is an independent paper, which obviously means that it doesn't, for instance, have an agenda of supporting the union/uni/whatever, but also that it doesn't get support, in terms of training, etc. Given that there isn't a media studies course here, I think the saint people do pretty well - they are self-taught after all.
Second, the Saint's won loads of awards. It even won last year's herald one, and it looks to be more on form this year (esp. layout).
Finally, for all its shortcomings, it's a hell of a lot better than most other student papers! And probably better than the other st andrews papers too.
