(1) Ain't no mountain high enough...nothing can keep me, keep me from yoooouuuuu....(Diana Ross)

(2) Ashes to ashes, rust to dust, this is what becomes of us. (Annie Lennox, Primitive)

(3) I should be crying but I just can't let it show, I should be hoping but I can't stop thinking, of all the things I should've said that I never said, all the things we should've done but we never did, all the things that you wanted for me, all the things that I needed from you...oh, darling, make it go away. (Kate Bush)

(4) You are the wind beneath my wings.
(Bette Midler)

Jeff Buckley's "Grace" album is brilliant, musiclaly and lyrically. Hard to pick out a best bit, but I'll choose thsi bit of 'Lover, You Should've Come Over':

It's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It's never over, all my riches for her smiles when i slept so soft against her
It's never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
It's never over, she's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever

Great stuff, great album.
[s]What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises.
The ships have come
To carry you home.

[/s]
[i:1wp3kko0]Now at midnight all the agents and the superhuman crew
Come out and round up everyone that knows more than they do

Sorry I've posted the whole song, but I don't think just one verse does it justice. This is Ben Folds, 'The Luckiest' and ever since I first heard it I thought it was the most accurate ode to what I see as true love and profound in its simplicity:

I don't get many things right the first time
In fact, I am told that a lot
Now I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and falls
Brought me here

And where was I before the day
That I first saw your lovely face?
Now I see it everyday
And I know

That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest

What if I'd been born fifty years before you
In a house on a street where you lived?
Maybe I'd be outside as you passed on your bike
Would I know?

And in a white sea of eyes
I see one pair that I recognize
And I know

That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest

I love you more than I have ever found a way to say to you

Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties
And one day passed away in his sleep
And his wife; she stayed for a couple of days
And passed away

I'm sorry, I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong
That I know

That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest

And wherever you've gone and wherever we might go.
It don't seem fair. Today just disappeared.

Pearl Jam - Light Years.
I love this song. It kind of sums up my life in the last 4 years. I get to see my fiance for about 4 days every month, which is crap :(
And when I do see him the time passes so quickly. Aaaw, I'm all depressed now!

Bad Liver and a Broken Heart - Tom Waits

Well I got a bad liver and a broken heart,
Yeah, I drunk me a river since you tore me apart
And I don't have a drinking problem, 'cept when I can't get a drink
And I wish you'd a-known her, we were quite a pair,
She was sharp as a razor and soft as a prayer
So welcome to the continuing saga,
She was my better half, and I was just a dog
And so here am I slumped, I've been chipped and I've been chumped on my stool
So buy this fool some spirits and libations, it's these railroad station bars
And all these conductors and the porters, and I'm all out of quarters
And this epitaph is the aftermath, yeah I choose my path, hey, come on, Kath,
He's a lawyer, he ain't the one for ya
No, the moon ain't romantic, it's intimidating as hell,
And some guy's trying to sell me a watch
And so I'll meet you at the bottom of a bottle of bargain Scotch
I got me a bottle and a dream, it's so maudlin it seems,
You can name your poison, go on ahead and make some noise
I ain't sentimental, this ain't a purchase, it's a rental, and it's purgatory,
And hey, what's your story, well I don't even care
'Cause I got my own double-cross to bear

And I'll see your Red Label, and I'll raise you one more,
And you can pour me a cab, I just can't drink no more,
'Cause it don't douse the flames that are started by dames,
It ain't like asbestos
It don't do nothing but rest us assured,
And substantiate the rumors that you've heard.
"I slopped at the corner on cold chow mein and shot billiards with a midget until the rain stopped."

"Nothing you can know that isn't known,
Nothing you can see that isn't shown,
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be,
It's easy - all you need is love"

-The Beatles, "All you Need is love"

"If I could know within my heart
That you were lonely too
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
Upon this winter night with you
...
If I could only have you near
To breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
And to be once again with with you"

-Sarah McLachlan, "Song for a Winter's Night"

I think the lyrics of most Elton John songs are great -- Bernie Taupin was a genius. Rocket Man is brilliant tho, and Levon -- 'he was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas day, when the New York Times said god is dead, and the war's begun' etc.

"The only time I feel all right is when I'm into drinking,
It can sort of ease the pain of it and it levels out my thinking."

Ralph McTell, but best sung by Nanci Griffith.

We've all felt like that at times. I know I have.

I apologise in advance...

surely I would need a queen

And now, I am king,
and my queen will come at dawn,
she'll be waiting, in Kingston Town"

And again...

"All I do is miss you
And the way it used to be
All I do is keep the beat
And bad company
And all I do is kiss you
Through the bars of a rhyme
Juliet I'd do the stars with you
Anytime"

Suprised no-ones mentioned the Manics yet, but you can pick pretty much any of their songs, particularly everything previous to TIMTTMY and find a gem:

'My idea of love comes from / A childhood glimpse of pornography / And there is no true love / Just a finely tuned jealousy'

from 'Life Becoming a Landslide'

'For sale? / Dumb cunts same dumb questions / All virgins listen / All virgins are liars, honey / And I don't know what I'm scared of / Or what I even enjoy'

'He's a boy / You want a girl so tear off his cock / Tie his hair in bunches, fuck him / Call him Rita if you want'

from 'Yes'

'There ain't enough black / In the Union Jack / There's too much white / In the Stars and Stripes'

from 'IfWhiteAmericaToldTheTruthForOneDayItsWorldWouldFallApart'

'Repeat after me / Fuck Queen and country'

from 'Repeat'

And of course

'And I hope you will forgive us / But everything must go'

from 'Everything Must Go', an announcement of the band's intention to sell out and make more commercial music.

What a fantastic band.

buddhist dance rap lyrics

Postby quarterstaff on Tue Mar 30, 2004 3:50 pm

Quiet.
Still you feel there's nothing going on,
until you realise
the space behind your eyes,
is filling up with something like peace
as your thoughts cease
and pleasure grows in your
Soul.
...
If you would once relax,
chill to the max
these words won't wax,
they'll cause sweet beels to ring in your Soul.
...
If I said God was alive
you'd wanna know why babies die
food don't grow
why planes crash
trains smash situation mash
and slam-bam
your fellow man
money's in fashion, huh
at ain't rational
because damn it -
He didn't just give us the planet and its grow!
...
Deep inside your Soul He left a piece of Himself
the Lord is in here
His voice is small
you keep lying and trying
denying the call
from inside you can't hide responsibility
...
so decide form today just how its gonna be
thou shalt have not other God by ME!
you can set yourself free
but you have to listen
and who is that false idol i see ya kissing?
money, success and untold wealth
good health and all you have to do is love yourself
its a fact
you attract
all the things that you lack
by just
CHILL
and get off the race track
take a pace back
face facts
its your decision
you don't need eyes to see,
you need VISION!
...
continue to view the Lord as being separated
and your living a lie thats been perpetrated
for many centuries
i wanna mention these
facts in my rap, huh,
i don't sing!
i wanna share the peace that i bring
my name is
G.
O.
D.
the Grand Oral Deceminator!

In a house by myself,
I hear the ice start to melt,
And I'll watch rooftops weep for the sunlight.
And I know what must change,
Fuck my face. Fuck my name,
They are brief and false advertisements...

...For a soul I don't have.
Something true I have lacked
And spent my whole life trying to make up for.
But I found in a song
And in the people I love,
They will lift me up out of darkness.

- False Advertising by Bright Eyes

But i could have listed looooads of Oberst's lyrics

'But what do I know? I'm a bear; I suck the heads off fish.'

the car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel
and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
and a dark wind blows

the government is corrupt
and we're on so many drugs
with the radio on and the curtains drawn

we're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine
and the machine is bleeding to death

the sun has fallen down
and the billboards are all leering
and the flags are all dead at the top of their poles
