Why i wish to quit my University Education: A Vehement Rant

You know, it's just like the issue of smoking in the Union.

And I will offer up my usual solution. Let's ban Universities!

Maybe a little harsh, but DinahX claimed to expect her post to be criticised, and quite rightly if you ask me. You can't expect to accuse people of being lazy, drunk, spoilt rich kids, elitist, unthinking servants of bourgeouis ideology, etc. without them having a few harsh words for you in return.

All the same I feel a little sorry for DinahX, as I've felt frustrated and angry about my degree, and life in general, as well. Some of the reasoning is eerily reminiscent of my own at the time (minus the Marxism). I don't mean to cause offence, but I'd actually suggest she talk to Student Support or something similar if she's still reading.

I prefer to the eradication of excessive verbiage, over elaborate diction, opaque statements, and pointless circumlocution!

I think you should also restrict the flame of the university as a whole to the subjects you mention(Their choice not mine), namely arts. It is ridiculous to say that a degree in computing or chemistry for example is utterly useless. Without people doing degrees in these subjects you wouldn't be able to rant on this thing called the internet, using another thing called a computer.

But you wouldn't deny without the wright brothers Aviation Technology might be a little behind its current capabilities - they were self-taught, you know. And of course there are other examples of highly prestigious thinkers who were sustained by their own burning desire rather than their university education, and either reached a university establishment via this when it became a convenient means of self expression, or they simply acted on their intellectual initiative

While it's certainly true that a great number of people of distinction didn't go to University etc. that hardly invalidates the basis of tertiary education.

That said - one of my friends studying Maths seems to have found a great example of how pointless some excercises at university can be, his Maths project essentially being regurgitation of existing material but even there one can see the need for tutors to gauge someone's understanding.
