The guys waving the bats and the samurai swords were doing it for harmless fun - their talk of chibbings and 'fuck the polis 101%' was just harmless fun. Their sectarian rants, their racist chants - how could I possibly judge these people, who are honourable members of our fine society. When they impregnate their 14 year old sengas, vandalise peoples car mirrors (i will kill the cunts who did that), and shout 'are you a fenian?' they are being jocular and hoping for peace on earth. Their mad sqaud really is a triumph over intelligence, and a show of teamwork to overcome the english language. They are so wise they have created a new, supreme language, removing specific vowels and spitting on the dictionary.

Neds are yobbish hooligans with no regard for anyone but themselves, and whose behaviour is despicably offensive and antisocial. It is natural reaction to hate people like this, and I do. However, trying to look at it from their point of view for a bit, I'd imagine it would be very easy for one to fall into that kind of behaviour if one has spent one's entire childhood in a ned environment. Had the average ned been brought up elsewhere, he could really turn out to be quite averagely decent. Also, I don't think there's much that can really be done to eradicate the social problem that neds constitute, short of taking each individual out of the herd and re-educating him on his own, away from the (considerable) peer pressure.
I don't know what (if anything) this contributes to what remains of the debate.
I personally don't care if mocking neds for their clothes and behaviour is classist - it's still funny.

I just popped on to say that my dad was at a concert in Glasgow at the weekend with his brother, and they had rolls thrown at them by neds thinking htey were hard. he didn't make the story very clear, but the two of them stood up to the wee bastards.

It's odd, I thought I was pretty safe attacking NEDs but bizarrely there appears to be a kind of pro-Ned movement developing on this board. Lets leave aside personal attacks for the moment and concentrate on the points that were introduced by Cellar Bar. Firstly my reasons for posting Ned websites. Aside from the amusement factor, there are personal issues at stake here, a mate of mine got beaten up outside the gas station by a bunch of baseball cap wearing nonce’s for being ‘a Paki’ (he's actually half Malaysian, half German, but that doesn’t seem to matter to these people). My mate stepped in to protect him and got his head repeatedly hit off the pavement by another youth causing mild concussion and a nasty head wound. Upon going to the police (the only reason they investigated it was because it was a racist attack) they were shown picture after picture of NEDs who all looked the fucking same and distinguishing one from the other was ultimately impossible, what’s worrying is that these were all people who had performed criminal acts but had not been prosecuted for lack of evidence. Some guy I know was the victim of a random attack when a bunch of Neds from Glenrothes pulled up in a car, jumped out and slashed his face with a flick knife purely for the craic. I could go on, but I’m willing to bet every single person on this board has at one time or another had first or second hand experience of these kind of incidents. So actually based on personal experience I have never felt so in the right as I do when I’m slagging what are in effect the dregs of society. There is no excuse for anti social behaviour, none whatsoever, don’t even pretend that there is. While these sites amuse me they also disgust me when I read about the stuff they openly boast about. If Cellar bar is who I think he is then he is the proprietor of the best pub in St Andrews (not an advert, just a simple statement of fact). Sorry mate, you certainly know your beer and I respect that but I think you are spectacularly wrong on this issue and I am offended by your implication that I am some kind of Yah seeking to mock working class youth (I used to hang out in the Stables for fucks sake, how snobbish can I be?). I am not seeking to mock Scottish culture, I love the country, I am just seeking to draw attention to the existence of a subculture that glorifies of random violence, heavy drinking and vandalism, if that’s immature then so be it. I get a lot of positive feedback for my Ned site reviews since I put them on GlasgowSuvival and most of it comes from the very working class Glaswegian youths that you claim I am looking down on, everyone is sick of Neds and frankly this working class hero bullshit that may or may not have been popular in your undergraduate days just doesn’t convince anyone anymore, least of all the people who day after day have to put up with attacks and abuse from violent yobs. Ill support the underdog, but not when he's snarling, wielding a baseball bat and attacking me simply for walking down the street.

This is the sort of reply that really annoys me. You don't seem able to bring anything tom the argument that makes some kind of sense. Your reasoning has no basis, just flawed moral principle. Sadly, there's always someone willing defend the indefensible just so they can claim the moral highground.
It is a discussion. We are having and argument and i was expressing my point. Your reply to it wasn't either Mature or helpful to it though so why bother (in your own words, you hyporcrit).
When you come back with a decent argument i'll listen. You would have to be blind to think that these people are decent members of society. I would continue but instead read what Humphrey said - its long, but its a good explanation.
Also, there are two good reasons for you to register. Firstly you can post immediately and there's no long delay. Secondly, we actually know its the same person we are arguing to in all the posts. It only take 1 minute so why not do it.
You can't say that you wouldn't join due to the nature of the debate, but then still post. You're already as good as a member in that respect.
