A most entertaining film. You sit there watching the camera sweep over the siege/battlefield, thinking 'I've seen battles/shots/CGI like this before, only less sand and sandals, and more trees and orcs'. Although not having recently seen other such fantasy epics wouldn't have made it any more epic in my eyes, because the acting was just shite. I love that review that described Brad Pitt's 'emotional scenes' as looking like he had just tasted bitter coffee!
And I wholeheartedly agree with the Bloom statements. Legolas
is a cool character, he can definitely slip into the elf role very gracefully, and you give him the benefit of the doubt, thinking that maybe they just gave him crap lines (or cut them out of the unextended version).
Then you go see Troy, or remember watching Black Hawk Down, and realise... the boy just can't act.
All of that being said, it was still entertaining to watch. Eric Bana and Sean Bean kicked serious arse, and gave genuinely good performances. Hector and Achilles' duel and some other moments did build up intensity.
Eh.. gah.. it's only a big-budget Hollywood blockbuster. It's supposed to be entertainment. And it made me laugh more than it made me literally cringe, so it's watcheable.
EDIT: Don't worry Thackary, he gets it where he's supposed to.
