University Radio?

Ok... Is there a uni radio station?!?
I'd really like to know- it's probably been asked many times before though!
How can i get in contact with them if there is?
And who do i see about it if there isnt?
Help would be very much appreciated!

if there isnt a remit for a radio station, and trying to get people to be djs on it is a problem, why not combine with the dundee universities, and have FAT(Fife And Tayside) radio "96.2, DAB and around the world on the world wide web, this is St Andrews FM, part of the FAT network" and it could get sponsored by Fat Sams and Fat Face?

An analogy to TV:

FAT = ITV
St Andrews FM / Dundee Unis FM = Scottish / Grampian

I really doubt that St. Andrews will ever have it's own "real" radiostation. One that is run in collaboration with another university or one which is internet based.

If anyone ever promises radio when running for the union presidency - it means they're a liar who is banking on the stupidity of voters... or possibly just very naive.

But anyway, good luck on the webcasting front Oli - it would be pretty cool to see that.

On the matter of a radio station---

Anyone running for a Union presidency promising a radio station, I agree, is probably full of it; however, there is an independent, non-association-affiliated project currently underway by a group known (provisionally) as "The St Andrews Radio Group." This is what the article in the Saint is in reference to.

Currently, there are four members of our "Board"--- myself, Antony Warner, Andre Wegner, and Harold Watkins. We're not aiming to set up an internet-based radio station--- we're going for the real shebang, tower, studio and all. We are covering the very preliminary expenses of paperwork and what-have-you with our own money so far, but we are courting corporate sponsorship and are being met with some success... as there's no way in hell we could ever support a full-blown station on our own.

We've been working since April. More on this will be available in September, as a lot of critical work will be done in the next two weeks with regard to licensing. In terms of who you can get in contact with on our project (I have no idea what, if anything, the Union is planning to do and I'm not in any position of authority to speak about it) I would suggest you wait until September, when we will most likely be holding a launch event for anyone interested--- but don't consider that gospel, as
1) Plans change, and nothing is final yet. Also...
2) I'm only the Administrative director, meaning my remit in the group is to form a "command structure" of sorts, to make sure the charter of the organization is consistent and to fiddle with some legal stuff on the side.

Hope that helps answer your question--- the answer is, "no, there is no radio station, but people are certainly doing their damndest to get one running."

It may, then, interest you to know that the site survey and what have you have been done already - Andrew Neil paid for it when he was Rector. If the Association doesn't have the papers on that, then shame on them.

No, no... of course the money was wasted. Institutional bureaucracy and wasting money go together. If the original survey had been acted on, then no money would have been wasted; however, since the restructuring of OFCOM and AM/FM licensing restrictions, it's now obsolete and a new one needs to be commissioned.
