god (or somebody) help the country

Postby will it ever end? on Tue Jun 01, 2004 4:24 pm

i fear greatly that 'people' actually vote for the BNP.

that there is a candidate up for election is even worse.

to quote the monkeys on horses at the end of spaceballs, "there goes the planet"
will it ever end?

What i feel more worried about is that people feel the need to vote for such a party, because the more middling parties, in their opinion, are not doing enough to answer their demands.

If the main parties want to do something about low turnouts, they need to sort out what they stand for. If they started listening to what the people wanted, then they might do better and the BNP and other such parties might disappear.

Not everyone who votes BNP is racist. Some parts of their programme appeal, like bringing jobs back to the areas needing them and unfortunately voting for this would also mean having to vote for less savoury options as well.

It would be interesting to see the reaction to the inclusion of a "None of the above" option on the paper!

If other parties included BNP policies wouldn't that make them as bad if not worse than the BNP. From what I could stomach reading of the BNP manifesto there isn't anything that couldn't be desribed as racist or at least offensive to any minority group.

The reason that parties like the BNP are gaining credence - IMO - is because mainstream political parties are unwilling to address the issue in terms that satisfy anyone. The fact that a government minister said multiculturism was a failure should speak volumes.

The main problem is not that multiculturism is a failure but less had been done to prevent ghettoisation of certain areas of cities. In addition the BNP are seen to want to tackle problems such as asylum seekers. Unfortunately no other party can tackle these problems because they realise they don't actually exist. The idea of asylum seekers overrunning the country is a lie made up by the Daily Mail. A newspaper, less we forget, that supported Hitler.

In fact this country is going to need immigrants soon, as our birth rate will start to decrease (it is predicted) in the near future. I believe it is 2010 or something. We also have an aging population that needs the support of young people in work, and we will start to run out of young people so we'll need all those immigrants we've been so nice to in the past.

That's very true. Unfortunately however there are a lot of people who only want a certain kind of immigrant. Mainly white and middle class. Therefore it is a racist issue. Britons travel all around the world for jobs, hell we start wars so we can have jobs rebuilding a country, so why should we deny the chance to other people?

there was a piece in the daily mail last week about Britons who used other countries' health services to avoid massive waiting lists in here. These health tourists were supported by the mail, and the crux of the article was "why don't you take advantage of it too?"

from the same papaer that bleats blue murder when immigrants get to use our NHS.

i'm not saying that health tourism is a good or a bad thing, just pointing out the infuriating double standards of the Daily bloody Mail.

yes - it's always amusing to read the daily mail or fox news.

Everyone should browse as many papers as they have time for realistically. It is better to have your eyes and ears open, to be aware of what any percentage of the country thinks on certain matters than to be blind to the fact that these people also vote and also have opinions or to perhaps have the naive assumption that everyone has the same opinion as yourself.

It is impossible to find out every individuals opinion but by browsing through the majority of the larger selling tabloids and broadsheets it is important in trying to understand where this country is at and where it is likely to go whether you like it or not.

Ignorance is not a virtue whereas knowing and understanding where other people's ignorances come from can be most enlightening.
