name those tunes

Postby benedict on Thu Jun 17, 2004 2:22 am

given Deviant noise plays quite an eclectic mix of music & styles it seems only natural for Deviant Noize to actually help educate it's members. i for one have often wondered what was actually being played one night or another.

i think it would be nice for the society to name some of the styles, artists & songs that make appearances (regular or otherwise) within the DJ sets.

i was rather pleased to hear Blutengel being played in the last joint effort of the year that last thursday. also the Soylent Green airing was somewhat appreciated.

given that much of dance music is a difficult scene to get a grip of in some ways it'd be good to know what kind of music does get played in the DJ sets. i know that Ninja records is/was rather popular at Deviant events but then again even that covers a fair bit of ground & therefore makes it difficult for the average member to get a foothold in.

Damn good point

You're welcome for the tunes.

Yeah. uh. Damn good point, I'm at every event, I do publicity and I help pick DJs and I'm still lost. God I suck.

I guess since I'm on the committee I should really look into this. Damn.

Jane, have you forgotten that we are in fact doing something about this? The music magazine.
For all those reading this and having no idea what we are talking about (although the phrase 'music magazine' might give it away) I will elaborate further at some point, don't worry. I will also be enlisting your help.

I just realised that you are Tim, so instead of emailing me I will talk about it with you when I get home.

Memory's as good as ever Ellie, but I wasn't aware that we were publishing set lists now! I was thinking more along the lines of something at the events to tell people exactly who and what is playing. Naming DJ's would be a good start- allows people to tell us which DJ's they like without resorting to : 'You know the fit one, tall, green hair, metal etc'...

SINCE YOU MENTION IT, (shamless plug) THE MUSIC MAGAZINE!!!...no, that's it, just a shamless plug!

WATCH THIS SPACE....

Ps. How's your metal free summer? Missing the Deviant?

We tried naming djs before the event in the olden days. It was not a good result. But we will think of something. Mind you, if somebody asked me to write out my setlist either before or after my set I would either have not figured it out yet or forgotten what I played.

Given up trying to put my nose stud back in after work every night (ow ow ow) Not happy :(

Set lists

Postby Jane Ellaway on Mon Jun 28, 2004 12:54 pm

SO TRUE! I have a hard time remebering anything I play let alone putting it in order. I don't want to submit set lists to the scrutiny and hatred of others. Ah!

Leaving...

Personally, I thought it was really cool when DN flyers had an itinery of the DJs and what sort of music they were going to be playing.
In my opinion, people who usually come to DN will come regardless, and not 'just in time' for the type of music they like, and the flyers help tell potential new people what DN play, and when to be there to hear a certain type of music.
That way, they won't just come in when the Punk/Hip-Hop/Drum&Bass is playing and think that is all that Dn is about, etc. I think you know what I'm talking about.
