Postby Enemy gives us a small epsilon on Sun Oct 24, 2004 2:58 pm

I would just like to say that, i cannot get across enough in lectures how much i, and alot of others LOVE Dr. Olsen. He is the man we all love to love, and love to respect.

A truly marvellous man.

Much respect also to Dr. Robertson (Edmund to his friends). His lectures are truly a pleasure, and i, and many others feel that he is underrated as a gentleman, and a scholar.

Mohawk, would it be possible to give the aforementionned maestros free bop bands foreverrrrrr?

Thanks guys. xxxxxx

Why are you asking Mohawk? He just plays the music (though he's not the only DJ).

Olsen is a great lecturer, once you get past his constant talk of 'the enemy' and shooting sparrows with Cruise Missiles.

Ruskuc is brilliant too, but unfortunately he's having a year out. :(

I agree Olsen is a great lecturer but tutorials with him were a bit scary as he'd aways involve everyone by asking each of us to answer at least one of the questions on our own.

Questions? Comments?

Oh yes, tutorials with Olsen are the most scary thing ever....I remember fractal geometry last year... He kept asking people to answer questions so people kept moving to the back of the side he never chose or not turning up at all... Tutorials got smaller and smaller and closer and closer to the only door out of 1A. I successfully managed to go to every tutorial and not get chosen at all...I am so proud...

Dr. Robertson is such a sweety. I juast want to give him a big hug :)

I'm not sure about Dr. Olsen. He's a novelty, and he knows his stuff, but he's a bit strict and not really very understanding of those that aren't exemplarary students.

Olsen and Edmund are probably two of the cutest members of the maths department...whenever i see edmund i just want to cuddle him, and olsen is cute because he has to work so hard constantly defeating "ze enemy". What a guy though, he seems to always win.

Personally, i think we should enter them onto the show eggheads...think they would win easily. Edmund, Olsen, Bell, Bo and Smith should be a very good team.

Hope everyone else in Olsen and Edmunds lectures are having as much fun as we all are, once again respect to the two intellectual trojans.

Love you all as always, esp Mohawk

You should just kiss him, i mean he deserves it, he's a legend.

Just an update from todays lecture.
Olsen told us that it was "good for our souls" to see a specific example.

I just think he is good for the classes souls in general.

The enemy came in today too, but this time instead of giving us a small epsilon, he gave us a sequence, which i thought was quite nice of the enemy given his nature.

Thanks guys, and make sure we all concentrate tomorrow for lovely edmund.

love you ALL XXXXXXXXXXXXX

Lars is one of the best lecturers in the Maths department and certainly the best pure maths one I have ever had.

If you get the chance take the Fractals course, as it's one of the most interesting modules I've ever had - plus he shows you the Mandlebrot set at one point and that's always nice to look at. Watch out for the multifractals bit if you do the 5000 level version though...

Interesting...I don't remember the enemy ever appearing during the Fractal Geometry lectures Olsen did last year...maybe its too hard for the enemy too...although there were alot of proofs that were 'good for the soul' and several theorems and definintions that should be used once a day and twice on sundays...he is a very entertaining lecturer and its fascinating how he can do the examples without looking at his notes and mostly get them correct which most of the others don't do.

My fave lecturer is still Ruskuc...hes funny but I do wish he wouldn't learn all the names and ask easy questions in 9am lectures so that no one is ever awake enough to know the answer.

Mohawk

Postby Superiorjames on Wed Oct 27, 2004 10:15 am

I had Mohawk today for MT8069...Lectures in oscillating hair waves.

Didnt really agree with his Theory on Static Hair....basically that as as N tends to infinity, where N is volume of gel used, S tends to 0 (where S equals distance travelled by hair strands). Think he mistook gel for PVA glue.

Never mind, he is a new lecturer and will hopefully settle into his role very soon. Best of luck to him, and I hope that he doesn't suffer the problems with the enemy that Olsen has.

Love you Mohawk, Olsen and Edmund (and all other mathematical maestros in the maths department)

Mohawks lecture in MT20000009 was excellent today, and his lecturing style was amazing.

In all seriousness though, olsen and robertson are both very cute, and for me it would be an EXTREMELY hard decision if i had to pick between them.

On a side note,I think that the enemy is very hard on olsen. Olsen just tries to be a nice guy, but the enemy seems to be constantly on his back, challenging him always. It's probably why Olsen is always so on the ball, he needs to be, otherwise the enemy would defeat him.
I personally think a very strong weapon in olsens armoury is the triangle inequality, except the enemy seems to becoming immune to it.

Maybe when Olsen talks of the enemy, he is talking of an enemy in the department...God forbid that he would be meaning EDMUND.

LONG LIVE KING EDMUND THE GREAT (RULER OF THE SYMMETRIC GROUPS IN THE NORTH AND MASTER OF THE DISJOINT CYCLES IN THE SOUTH).

I though Prof. Mohawk was going to be doing more pure maths, but it seems like he just wants to be the head of school. Fair enough though, he is good enough for the job.
