That ought to get rid of it...

I suppose...but you have to admit, its going to be rather hard to inflict epsilons and sigma sums on Olsen from inside the stomach of a dragon....

Epsilon balls.....

Postby Superiorjames on Thu Oct 28, 2004 12:54 pm

I agree that the dragon is a good idea, though as dirac points out, the enemy is invincible. Only olsen and his triangle inequality can fight back the enemy.

Edmund was looking very cute today, he has his hair styled in a rather slick manner...i think this is an attempt to make a good first impression to the new maths intellectual, MATHSHAWK. Edmund can probably pull it off, i mean he has style.

It is class test time tomorrow...Olsen will be testing whether we are aquiring the basic skills that we need to fight off the enemy should he give us a tiny, tiny, epsilon when olsen is not around to fight him off for us. Any comments, qvestions about the test? No? Gut, on with the thread.

Mohawk seems to have attracted a number of admirers in the maths department since taking on his new role...it isnt surprising though, he is very attractive. I just hope that the sinner remains a place where we can all hail Mohawk in unison. Can i have your number please mohawk?

before i begin i have 1 praaactical remark:

firstly: i fear none bar olsen! only specialist training and words of wisdom from Mrs Olsen Sr can prepare one for challenging the might of the epsilon ball. you can't just pluck a random number, say 42, and challenge me!

that was todays practical remark

comments, qvestions? good.

Depends, i've heard rumours that epsilon balls can penetrate even the hardest of materials, so a dragons stomach lining should be no match for the enemy.

However, Olsen has engrained in us a measure,(much like garlic and wooden stakes warn off vampires),to frighten the enemy...

FOR ALL EPSILON > 0, THERE IS AN N IN N: FOR ALL n IN N: SUCH THAT n>=N IMPLIES THAT THE DISTANCE BETWEEN Xn and X IS <= EPSILON.

THIS IS MY MANTRA.

WHATS YOURS MATHSHAWK?

As a disciple of Olsen, i can merely use what i have learnt from him in my time, which is far inferior to the powers he posseses. Though i do have my DELTA FUNCTION.....

That was so hard to decide, what a great poll.

I think Edmund might win, he has a strong following.

But MATHHAWK (as he is known in the U.S.A) too has a strong contingent.

Oh dear, this could end in tears....

My goodness is dr olsen such an awesome lecturer. SO GREAT is he in fact, that even the illusive creature known only as Bryn can be seen attending his lectures.

But when he stops to ask someone if there is something wrong its always to the guy who sits right behind me, so for a brief moment he is glaring straight at me...FRIGHTENING!

Also the following things have also been pointed out as olsenisms

1.) He never looks directly at the class when addressing it

2.) When thinking he always puts his hand on his head to cover his tiny thinning part on his hair (but whether this is of cause or effect is uncertain)

3.) He has a manic fixation with causing the physics department the largest possible annoyance

And he teaches fractals.

This man should be employed by everyone to end world hunger, encourage global peace and to combat any and all alien invaders. 2nd greatest lecturer in the university, after 1st yr bruce sinclair

Olsen is amazing...and the enemy is just evil, we had a few conjectures about who the enemy actually was(from mt2002'ers last year to us) ...
but we did count the number of times he mentioned 'ze enemy' once, and we got up to 18!(and that was in a 50 min lecture!)
ho hum...the test tomorrow could be intersting though!im worried the enemy is going to be very mean and produce something i don't have the foggiest to combat.
Also enigma, even if i haven't had Bruce, how can make an implication that someone in Physics is better than the maths department...but then you don't get to have Nik (a legend!) for 2005...haha!enjoy Cambell!!!
2005 was a great module with Nik, but i fear for those of you with Cambell!
*sorry*
And yes Fips is also a very good lecturer!(would be better if those lectures weren't at 9am though!)

One question about Olsen's examples class: if edmund hadn't showed up at his door and abandoned us when would we have found out Cauchy was gonna be in the test!? thank god for Edmund!

in addition to Enigma's post about Olsen's habits:

1) Poor grammar

2) Leaning on the board at the start of each lecture

3) 42!

4) "The enemy enters the door..."

need i go on?

After hearing numerous versions of "my mother warned me about ... " from Lars, does anyone else secretly want to meet her?
