Alternatively, attach an over-sized pasteboard thing on your front and back declaring your wanton availability to 'hot, reasonably tall, reasonably friendly single guys'. A megaphone might help too.

Seriously, good luck. Just be happy as you are and they'll flock to you.

Stop looking.

It's the only way to find someone.

Now see I want to know how exactly does that work! Arn't you typically looking on some level? If you weren't then you would be oblivious and miss it.

I know loads of nice guys...but they're friends. The guys that approach me romantically are either too old or too drunk for my liking. Sigh. I guess you just can't win...

yes!! no nice guys ever approach nice girls...what do we do wrong? why do only old, drunk men have the courage to chat us up? we would be much more responsive to decent boys who we know actually like us. take a chance guys...

Why do no girls chat guys up?

That would be a refreshing change......

Girls chat up guys all the time! Guys are just (generally) too dim to realise what's going on. They dont get subtly at all, and unless girls literally throw them at guys then they dont realise what's going on. Girls aren't always willing to do that.

I hate subtlety. The way I see it if you want something, ask for it.

My mother gave me a long-sleeved t-shirt for Christmas, complete with a personal-ads type newspaper clip on the front with the following text:
"Young handsome male with healthy interests, strong economy and a good sense of humour, is looking for attractive female to share fun moments. Only photo responses considered. # CTFD 86"
A subtle hint, perhaps?! Thanks mum. Needless to say it is one of my prized possessions. If you ever see it walking around town, then come chat up the person wearing it. I don't bite.

Women should learn that it's not a cliche, any attempt at signals will or subtly will fail.

I have to agree with the original poster. Every guy seems already to have a girlfriend. And i'm not sure if guys are afraid of tall girls (i am short) but they definitely seem to be afraid of girls with brains. Some of my guy friends admit that they prefer a stupid girlfriend who will only look up to them in awe. I tell guys what I study (physics) and immediately they try to find a reason not to talk to me any more. I can actually see the fear appear in their face. Should I just lie and pretend I am a silly little girl just waiting for a big, strong, intelligent man to rescue me?

When i tell girls that i study physics, they just laugh. However i think most people have an innate fear of physics/maths, so it does not really surprise me.

Hey original poster back in the house!! Thanks 4 suggestions, its been really good 2 see everyones opinions!! its funny though because i would say that i fell under the category of 'normal' (except 4 being a giant!) and i do actually quite like myself! although not in an arrogant way, obviously!! and the poster who said we'd miss everything if we werent looking is totally right, but on the other hand desperation does have to be avoided! i tried the whey pat for the first time the other day as well, i cant believe ive missed out on such a good pub all this time (im a third year!!)
Just one more quick point, i'd have no problems chatting up a guy if i werent so damn scared of rejection, which i think is just a natural thought whether male or female!!
oh and ive decided to wink at guys more, surely thats not too subtle?

I made the old "what's purple and commutes? An abelian grape" joke tonight and got the most dirty looks, I'm seconding that opinion.

That's one of my favourite! Also the one that starts - a chemist, a physicist and a statistician were having dinner...

maybe that's why i'm single - i find these jokes amusing...

What's an abelian grape? And what happened at the aftermentioned dinner?

Yum! Pencils!
