Sons and Daughters gig last night...

Postby steerpike on Sun Nov 28, 2004 12:14 pm

...what did everyone who saw them think? do they live up to the praise they're currently enjoying in the press or are they just another random band from Glasgow?

..And was I the only person in venue 1 who thought the supporting act they had were absolute pish?

and well done to those guys who got that mini-moshpit going at the front, livened things up a bit :)

I liked them alot, the mandolin made a nice change from the standard guitar, drums, bass, keyboard, singer combination. But I haven't read anything about them in the press, so I couldn't comment on that. The faces the guitarist was pulling made me laugh.

I thought they were very good, and totally lived up to their billing. It was also nice to hear a Scottish band singing in a Scottish accent.

I also really liked Sons and Daughters. It was so cool to see that style of live music in St Andrews. Does anyone know the name of the band that played before them? I thought they were pretty good too.

Sons and Daughters were excellent.
The band before them was The Red Well. Check out http://www.fencerecords.com.

Next Saturday it's Aberfeldy and the Fence Collective, which will be another brilliant night.

Hurray.

I was there! The music was good, but the 'crowd' were somewhat sparse and lacklustre. I did my best but there's only so much a handful of people can do in a fairly static crowd. To be fair, I'd expect nothing less from this town.

I also learned that The Red Well are better live than on record.

They were great :D I'd already seen them support Franz in Glasgow last year (and they were great then too) so knew what to expect. Got loads of good photos from the front and met them afterwards too :D Also got a photo with Scott (mmm, yummy :P) but didn't get anything signed, I forgot, bah :( But yeah was a great night :D

Is it just me or were Sons and Daughters all midgets though? They just appeared to be all very small........

Never mind, they were very good- a lot better live than on recording i thought.

The Red Well were pretty good actually, better than a lot of the stuff on Fence records, although i think they have been reading the Mogwai book of songwriting a bit too much

They weren't as good as Mogwai.

very little is, i was reffering to the seemingly 16 minute guitar riffs... ...or was the large volumes of green-vomit inducing alcohol altering my perception of time?
