Album(s) of the Year

Postby flarewearer on Fri Dec 31, 2004 9:39 am

Seeing as there is a film of the year, and I', not to clued up on such things, I think it only right that there should be one for music too. So, in no particular order, what are you pop picker's favourite albums of the year? Here's my top 5(ish); NOR AFF!

> Interpol - Antics
> Kings of Convenience - Riot on an Empty Street
> The Killers - Hot Fuss
> Brian Wilson - Smile!
> Morrissey - You Are the Quarry

(and yes i did also like Keane and Franz Ferdinand, but someone else will bag them so there's no point duplicating things is there...)

The Killers' album was absolute genius! Best album i've bought in a good while!

Also particularly good last year were Embrace's Out Of Nothing and Jimmy Eat World's Futures.

I'd say

The Killers - Hot Fuss
Jimmy Eat World - Futures
Embrace - Out Of Nothing
Keane - Hopes and Fears
Linkin Park / Jay-Z - Collision Course (not usually my thing but thought this album was good)

I loved the Killers album too, but an even better one in the same vein was the Radio 4 album. My top five would be:

The Music - Welcome to the North
Biffy Clyro - Infinity Land
Laeto - Zwoa
Radio 4 - Stealing of a Nation
Hope of the States - The Lost Riots
I'm only here because b3ta is broken.

Because despite being quite good it was definitly over-rated. Same goes for Keane. I liked them both but I can't see what all the media fuss was all about.

I would go for The Killers, Kasabian, KT Tunstall, Libertines and The Verve singles and Jeff Buckley Grace re-release,for the bonus "new" tracks on both.

Anyone got any albums they're looking forward to this year? I'm not sure who has albums coming out...

My vote goes to:

Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters (definitely my most listened to album this year)
Green Day - American Idiot
Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane

and I'd also like to give a nod to Pet Shop Boys - Pop Art, which, while it was released last year, is definitely the album I wanted most this year.

not only "indie" albums count (i.e. scissor sisters, brian wilson or maroon 5 are not indie), so i reccomend a hearty does of stabbing yourself in the eyes with indie pencils! I definitely agree that natasha bedingfields album is unwritten, I know it is terribly bad, but i dont think even mcgonnagal could come up with something that bad on purpose.
