i put a post on this thread a while ago stating that i felt a presence in my room. Well towards the end of the semester it was more than just a feeling!All sorts of weird shit was happening in that room. I saw a black figure walking past my bed one time, and a presence (that i couldnt actually see, but i knew was there-people who dont believe will not understand)That would stand by my bed an wake me up (always on the same side of the bed). I also had some pretty weird dreams, really scary ones. There was one where i was crouched against my wall in the dark screaming my head off.
I decided to call him Guy!But i was very very scared...(it was on D floor so if anyone has had a similar experience with a room on D floor let me know!)

On E floor in Chattan, some of us are convinced that there's a poltergeist living in some of the weird shed things under the street that face the E floor windows. They're all just too creepy not to be haunted.

Seriously, though, I think the ghosts give the hall character. Maybe I just think that way because I'm not living there next year, though.

Get "Most Haunted" to come and do a live show in St Andrews. I'd pay good money to come and see that bunch of fakers prance around the town.

When I lived in DRH Tulloch its last year in existence, we had some weird stuff happen too. Like the steam from the bath would come up, stop right in front of my face, form a face and then dissipate.
And one time, the bathroom door was locked and we heard water running in the bath, but all 4 of us were in our rooms and no one had come on the floor. then the bath water stopped running, we heard splashing as if someone was taking a bath, and a little while later, the bathroom door was open and the bath was wet, but no one had come out of the bathroom and none of us had been in there.

this is a true story but little known. During world war two, the Germans heard that biological weapons were being created in the Bute Medical Building. this was not true (says the university) but the germans sent planes to bomb the building, the only bombing in Scotland during the war.

I don't if that's a true story or not - the version I heard is that the Germans were trying to bomb RAF Leuchars but they were confused by the Eden Estuary and ended up bombing St Andrews instead. The Bute building took most of the damage and the ruin/wall in the garden area of St Marys Quad is the evidence of what happened.

Hamilton Hall has lots of stories about strange goings on. Most tales seem to involve rooms on the 4th floor. The manageress has a file of all the stories from the last 15 years or so and they are really interesting. Quite a few students have drawn diagrams of the things they saw and many accounts are scary because they are so similar. There must be something going on.

The 6th floor is quite creepy too. I too have seen the notice warning people to keep out but there are a couple of ways to get up there and I visited once. One room still has all the damage caused by a fire and although I can't shed any light on whether people died or not, I do know that the smell of smoke and the atmosphere in there is not nice. I'm surprised that these rooms haven't been refurbished though - accommodation services could have had another 4 students up there, literally packing them to the rafters!

Yeah, what is the story with the whole fire/empty floor thing? I heard about it last year from my flatmate who'd lived in Hamilton in first and second year and had gone up to the sixth floor once. It just seems strange that they'd leave an entire floor empty and not refurbish it for like thirty years or however long it's been.

Money - the uni probably just didn't want to spend any cash on a hall that it had pretty much taken off the books as far as repairs went.

I tkae it by "repairs" you mean when they paper and paint over enormous holes in the walls rather than actually fix them...

Re: the Hamilton fire

As far as I know, the fire occurred when workmen were working on one of the corner rooms in the summer. One workman's blow torch set fire to the curtains and the fire when straight up through the ceiling and up into the pepperpot, then spread all along the 6th floor. As far as I know, no one died but it is incredibly creepy up there. Apparently they had to replace the pepperpot and I remember a friend speaking to a local about it in first year who said they remembered the new pepperpot being airlifted onto the roof!

Ariel- presumably it's chattan you're on about. I was in D floor in my 4th year and it wasn't too bad, tho my cupboard space in d14 (formerly hotel reception with phone wires etc still attached!) was a bit creepy.

However, in my 3rd year in C floor (C26--right down at the end) I had a lot of weird shit happen, quite similar to the stuff you describe and in the end had to get Jamie Walker round to pray with me one dark winter's night. After that, things got better.

The thing that struck me about your comment was that my presence was a guy too. And it sounds very similar- seeing things out of the corner of your eye, knowing you're being watched etc etc.

If you are a wee bitty psychic anyway (which I do appear to be) then it's just possible you might have inadvertently attracted this guy to you. I didn't think he was evil or bad, though he did seem pissed off as if I was invading his space. Jamie thought perhaps he didn't know he'd died if it was sudden or something.

Even my cleaner used to comment that my room was much much colder than the others:(

I'd suggest that you try talking to him--the presence that is, and tell him you're sorry you encorached but that you have to live there too. You don't mean any harm, and could he please give you a break?

Speaking of Chattan, the bit of the cement stairs down by E floor always creeped me out, but that's probably because it was always so dark down there.

KateBush, following your theme...in 2nd year in my room in New Hall I had issues with a presence in my room. I didn't know why but he really scared the hell out of me and in the end I had to ask my parents for advice on prayers to say to get him to leave my room. I had the same room in 3rd year and needless to say he hasn't been back.

It's not the first time I've seen any sort of presence but it is the first time I have been so freaked out by one.

My room was always freezing (although the lack of heating didn't help) but my cleaner would always comment on how my room was so cold compared to my neighbour's room.

The presence was that of a man and I'm quite sensitive to these things and can normally distinguish between the good and bad (and this one had a dark aura and coldness). Thing is he would do the same thing every night. Walk in from my door, walk round the side of my bed and then sit on it.

I thought I was freaking out at first until a couple of other friends asked me if I was noticing something because they had seen him in my room too and were too afraid to come and visit me. And when they did come and see me, they'd describe him to me.

I don't believe in ghosts and things but I do believe in (d)jinn which are a type of presence some humans who are sensitive can feel.

Those who don't believe in this sort of stuff will naturally scoff at what I have just said but I do wonder what the North Haugh had on it originally?

Because by definition ghosts are the souls of dead people returning. I believe that once your body dies your soul goes elsewhere and does not roam on this earth.

Jinn however are not ghosts they are other beings in themselves (and not souls of humans) that also inhabit this earth and some humans can feel their presence. Like humans (good and bad) you get good Jinn and bad Jinn (bad Jinn are commonly known as poltergeists in the western world).

Jinn are not something to be afraid of as they cannot harm you which is why I felt stupid that I was freaked out so much by one as it couldn't do anything to me.

Has anyone seen anything outside in that area (such as the Cabbage Patch), not just in Chattan or a flat?
