BL2002 results! shinanigans?

Ok I was wondering about something that was sent in an e-mail by Lorna (the course dirrector) about the up coming BL2006 course. She had made a point to infer that "some" of the students in cell physiology were "struggling" and needed "encouragement". I myself getting a lower grade than expected, assume that probably others have had this occur to them. The problem is I had reveiwed about 90% of the course material in full, included supplementary readings, primary readings, and all of the posted lecture notes on web CT. Now if Lorna has to say that kind of thing, I presume that something big occured, ie. lower than expected class average. Despite giving up my time with my family during winter break, studying an average of six hours a day for over a month. What I don't get is why I got a 8.7 overall? I had an 11 in an over all assessment, then that means I had to have gotten a 6.4 on my final!?

Anybody else have any constructive input or have a similar situation?

Well constructively I would suggest you arent very clever

Sorry but 6 hours revision a day for a month should not produce a 6.4 on your final paper or whatever.

I think that maybe the best thing to do would be to go and speak to Lorna...she will be able to tell you where you went wrong. Also, although you had an 11 in the continuous assessment, remember that an 11 is equal to 60-61% and that this is worth 50% of your final mark, so you would have needed 60-61% in the exam to get an 11. I find that it is much more difficult to get a good grade if my continuous assessment marks are low. The exam format was different to exams last year with the MCQs being negatively marked and the essays, perhaps you were not prepared for this? Or maybe you were really nervous on the day?
Also try not to let it get you down...most people muck up exams sometimes and at least you passed.
Ignore the other poster - they may have passed their exams but they are obviously lacking in social skills. I personally think that exams are not a particularly good measure of academic ability - luck, practice and confidence also play a part.
