Any thoughts?

I, personally, feel completely ripped off.

I was very disappointed this year: the opening band were amazing but then the music just got worse and worse.

I think what killed it for me this year was that you either had to queue in a line that took an hour to get to the Main Bar, or chance your life at a smaller bar, fighting to get a drink.

All the blatanr skippage was a bit crappy too.

Big let down after last year...at least the loos were purty.....

i'm back too, thought it was a good night, but not worth 60/80/100 quid. would have been happy to spend £40 on the amount of fun i had but anymore is simply not on. thje queues were massive, and the food was mingin.. too crowded, not enough bars, and not a shot of sambuca to be found.
hence i'm home early.

Yeah it was scum. When I was hungry they suddenly ran out of food, huge lines waiting for the bar too. I so did not get my moneys worth!

Meh.

it was ok, groove armada would have been better had there been more booze. most people weren't really bothered, they didnt play enough of their popular hits. superstylin' was AWESOME though. queues were absurd at some times, food was better than last year; but it was poorly planned. people arrive, they want to line their stomachs, so how about you dont put the food right next to the entrance??? it only resulted in a massive queue for food and even to get in/out!!

It was pretty decent but it was painfully obvious that there had been little thought in the redesign as it was a trial to get between the two VIP areas, the VIP bar staff were inept, the VIP bar really only got organised well after the point at which it needed it, the food ran out far too fast, there weren't nearly enough seats in the casino, the chill out area was too loud and crowded by people trying to get to the bar, the VIP loos were a travesty with dozens of girls using the mens and causing a queue that men joined for the sake of it, the fair ground rides took about 40 minutes to get on...

Other than that, great.

Is it my imagination, or do people say things like this every year?

There are never enough toilets, it's always too busy, the queues are always too long for everything, food runs out quickly, the KK say that they'll have it sorted next year and it turns out to have the same problems.

and still people convince themselves that they're going to have a good time.

on a side note, is Steveo still alive?

I thought it was great. Apart from the fuckup with the cars at the start (my mates and I managed to get a taxi within minutes of calling one) and the initially shitty queuing system everything I used was top notch. The hog roast was delicious too.

Here were my problems:

They should have limited it to say half as many people, it was just too crowded and the number of people were just overwhelming any attempt at organization.

First, I didn't get a jag up, and apparently the people who did wait subsequently didn't get any food or the casino currency (or so they told me)

I didn't like the food, and there was nothing truly vegetarian (my friend sonal is a vegetarian). The little food I had tasted...funny.

I was thirsty, but wasn't about to risk life and limb, let alone my dress, to try and get up to the (VIP) bar. Even if I had been there to drink myself silly, I would have had trouble doing so.

There were a grand total of 12 places to sit. You can only stand in high heels for so long, even if they are comfortable heels.

The VIP areas should have turned down the music (at least in one of them) so that it could be an escape from the main areas, and perhaps people could actually TALK a bit.

The casino should have either had another blackjack table or just more variety. I couldn't get near the black jack so we spent and hour and a half playing roulette, which gets boring after awhile.

I kept getting seperated from friends without really any hope of finding them, given how big everything was, and I got really sick of having to shove and be shoved to make it through the main area, with people pouring or stumbling with their drinks (and cigarretes) endangering my nice clothes.

I mean, I had a good time, but that was sort of ruined by the feeling of having paid 100 pounds (plus dress and hair and etc) for a 5 pound experience.

They shoudn't have made it "black tie"- there's no point. I would have been much happier in that environment a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and with my hair in a ponytail.

They also needed some music variety. It seemed that after about 10, everywhere was playing the same type of music, which while I can appreciate it in suitably small doses, was just too much.

And then, the Jag back only went to the Union, so I had to get another cab. After all that hassle, the least they could have done was go to the halls (even if we had to give directions), at least earlier in the evening when no one was using the jags.

So to reiterate: not worth the money. They must be giving 90% of the ticket price to charity, or at least, after that, I would hope so.

personally i thought it was a great night. The vip drinks were ace, while they lasted. the shots down the ice sculpture were tasty,I got my moneys worth on drinks, the hog roast was amazing. the vip chillout was nice, the casino was really worth it coz managed to have a bit of luck and come top overall so hope i get the plasma tv. although I wasnt a fan of the music played in the main hall, the jazzy band in the smaller vip bit was really cool. so overall had an amazin night. And quit complaining about having a pants night when you post on the sinner almost three hours before it finished.

How nice for you.

Why the hell do you think I was home TO post on the sinner, as you say, three hours from the end?
As I said- My feet were killing me, I was tired, I was bored, and the noise and etc were finally really getting to me. The reason i didn't leave earlier is because I was determined to stay until midnight, so i ended up playing roulette. But then the casino closed.

Starting to feel glad I didn't go... How come there's no option on the poll for I'd rather chew my own foot off than go to a 'do' organised by people who won't even let me join their private little society?

ok...its obvious that people are going to have differnet opinions about their night lastnight, but thats inevitable: people's views are going to be affected by loads of variables( ticket choice/friends you spent the night with/ how much money you feel you should spend on a night out/whether or not you pulled a fitty!).
however, it seems to me that the KK have a responsability to make sure that the ball is the best it can be(as organisationally flawless as poss). people's subjective opinons are always going to differ, but if the KK had organised evrything better (i.e. less queues/food/music) then it would be much harder to criticise.
we're all paying over-the-odds for a ticket (no matter which one you went for: 60/80/100) , so the KK have gotta treat us all like VIP's.

Goes to show that the New Hall Ball still rocks and is so much better organised for so little money!!

I was offered a ticket by a mate for free but I decided not to go because I've heard so many negative things about it over the years (and the fact that he waited till Friday afternoon to tell me he had bought 2 tickets instead of one, and I had nothing to wear except my trackie bottoms and footy shirt!!)

Hopefully the poll will give a better idea of what the ball was really like before we can start critcising the KK on the basis of a few opinions on the Sinner.

Perhaps one of the reasons why people had a bad time is because they were expecting so much from it (for the money they paid and the hype that surrounds it?)

It's a shame people didn't enjoy it - and no seats for girls in heels?? (ouch - I would have collapsed!!) Goes to show an all blokes society doesn't have a clue about girls at all!!

What would also be interesting to see is if most of the complaints are originating from people who bought standard tickets or whether VIP ticket holders have criticisms or didn't enjoy it as well.

Anyway, regardless of if you had a good or bad night, hope you're recovering from it today.
