Same-sex marriage in Spain

I think this is pretty cool - Canada, Spain, who will be next? how long will it be before same-sex marriage will be legal in Britain?

Although what do people think of the adoption issue?

I know it's quite sexist, but my gut instinct says it's ok for 2 women to adopt, but not 2 men. Hmm. I'm going to have to think more about this.

Also, I'm really surprised that a Catholic country such as spain would be one of the first to allow this. Just shows what a good Socialist leader can achieve.

Well i think it is a terrible idea. marriage is between a man and a woman, simp,e as. Before anybody starts shooting their mouth off about homophobia, i am gay. I see no problems with civil unions or whatever term you want to use, but the term mariage should remain a traditional ter,. I believ that only unions through religous organisations should be called marriages. I think the spanish are making a mistake. Not a major one, but still it harms the fabricof the idea of marriage and will devalue it further than modern society already has.
As for adoption, as you say it is a complex issue. I would say it is wrong, not beacuse a same sex couple cant bring up a child, but simply beacuse i dont think the child would have an easy time at school, legislation will not change the public mindest, especially of school children.

This comment however is ridiculous and blind

Yeah, socialist leaders are great for homosexuals. Lwnin, Stalin, Mao... the list goes on.

What I want to know is just one good reason why homosexual marriages shouldnt be allowe? If gays and lesbians want to fuck up the rest of their lives, sorry, i mean declare their undieing love and commitment to the person of their dreams, who is anyone to stop them from having all those perks that marriage gives you. At least they are doing their bit for world overpopulation by not popping out sprogs left right and centre.

Civil partnerships in Britian are allowed as of December 5th i think.

However one of the churches....the methodist one i think... has said it will offer blessings to same sex couples as rhey are committing themselves to a union/stable life yada yada yada....

Yes it was the methodists. Which is a good sign considering the movement towards unity with the anglican church. Perhaps their decision will spread.

I think that governments should give up marriages and leave that as a religious thing. Civil unions for all, in other words. That way, the government deals with the legal side of things. And....well..."marriage" in our society is an institution that's main purpose was the creation of legitimate children. So, it's not the proper term to use to designate a long-term relationship based on love, is it?

I was wondering if babies also have rights... who asked them if they want to live with 2 women or men?
Other than that I find it okay and believe they have the right to get married.

How does it affect the general public if two gay people are married or not?

It doesn't matter about undermining the value of marriage.
The 'institution of marriage' is made a mockery of by arseholes every day, cheating on each other and abusing each other. What a crock of shit.

As for adoption, well, lets face it, wouldn't you rather have an arse-bandit for a dad instead of some fat bastard beating you over the head every day?

Some 'straight' parents are scary. I am sure a lot of gay people will make great parents.

What they really need is some sort of panel where you have to pass a test in order to be a parent. If you fail, you get neutered. No more neds! That would be fucking tight.
I listen to feminists and all these radical gals - most of them are failures. They've blown it. Some of them have been married, but they married some Casper Milquetoast who asked permission to go to the bathroom. These women just need a man in the house. That's all they need. Most of the feminists need a man to tell them what time of day it is and to lead them home. And they blew it and they're mad at all men. Feminists hate men. They're sexist. They hate men - that's their problem. ~Jerry Falwell

I guess you understand that living with 2 women or men matters. If you live with two men that would mean that you miss what a mother could offer you. Similarly with women. I believe it is more healthy to grow with parents of different sex. Moreover, I am not saying that it is unfair that somebody is born without being asked as we do not know if that is possible at all! But living with homosexual parents surely will make you different in a way which might not be good for you. I am not thinking or acting like the people you are describing.

I agree with username. I think, it will effect the child dramatically. I would like to share some of the ideas I have about these kind of stuff.

In my opinion, it is immoral to "marry" a person from the same sex. It is not holy marriage, as is described in books. I think, it shouldn't described as "marriage", it can be described as "civil agreement to live together" but NOT MARRIAGE. I think we have enough retarted and socially lost kids already, who cannot deside who they are, a male or female despite the actual organs, or see things in normal ways with clear mind, because of their alcoholic parents, maniac relatives and extremist society.

I believe all of these come from the desire for sexual intercourse, which will have no future RESPONSIBILITY, in the form of children.

It will definately destroy the notion of family in Spain, and in any society this law is accepted.

Think about it.

Marriage isnt about the fucking church! It's a statement of commitment between two people. It's a beautiful thing and God has nothing to do with it (which is just as well since God doesnt exist).

If gay marriage leads to the erosion of the part of our society still clinging to the outmoded doctrines of nonsensical bullshit like the church, I am WELL UP FOR IT!

It is fucking ridiculous that we are debating whether or not gay couples make natural parents. The real debate should be about what to do with heterosexual parents who are shit at looking after their kids.

Bible boy? First time i have been called that, ussualy it is more like "you will burn in hell fag", but there you go. What i mean is that i feel marriage is a religous instittution. I dont believe it to be superieror to any civil union, i simply belieive that homosexual marriages, and indeed marriage between non-religous people, is a mis-use of the term marriage. And i never contended to speak for you or anybody just myself.
I noticed that Spain is also inserting a passage into the marriage vows whereby the man and woman must promise to share housework and childcare equally. I think spain could be an interesting case as far a marriage is concernec in a few years time
I agree with whoever made the point about there being many poor hetrosexual parents. This is definatley true, and i can but agree with the suggestion that a way should be found of preventing those unfit from becoming parents. I do not however think the rights of homosexual couples to adopt should be put above the needs of a child. Children with homosexual parents would be picked out at school and picked on. I am certain that there must be some emotional need for both a father and a mother in the upbringing of a child. The point is, allowing homosexual couples to adopt on the assumption that it will not harm the child is to run a cruel and inhuman experiment on many children whose results wether good or bad we would not know till it is way too late to do anything about it.

The phrase "civil union" sounds like a buisness arangement. Not very romantic. Marriage should be the prerogative of the state since they are the ones who grant inherritance rights and such like. If you leave these importsnt issues up to the churches, they'll fuck things up. Pobably each declair that only their church can authorise marriage.

As far as adoption goes, I'm less certain but not because I'm hesitant to leave a child alone with two homosexuals (in fact I would trust the only long-term gay couple I've known to look after children before most of my heterosexual male friends.)
I do, however, believe firmly that a child benefits greatly from both a male and female role model. So I suppose if single people can adopt, gays should be able to too.

So my parents aren't married then?

They're both and always have been atheists.

That makes me a bastard.

So you're calling me a bastard.

Marriage way way predates Christianity, as does homosexuality. So fuck you. Christianity can fuck off, marriage is for everyone, my parents and myself included.

I love the way lax cannabis laws and gay marriage go hand in hand, Canada, Netherlands etc, not that I'd be interested in either in any way. Maybe its cause these societies are the most intelligent?
