[/b]I'm not that surprised that Dumbledore was killed off, as it will make the last book very interesting. But it was very well done.

And, geekishly, surely there's a continuity in Dumbledore saying that no Defence Against Dark Arts teacher has lasted more than a year since he turned Voldemort down for that post: Quirrel had been established as serving for a while in the first book, off the top of my head I recall one of the twins commented that he used to be different, but changed since returning from a vampire mission or something, and Voldemort can't have asked for the job after that, considering his lack of body.

But all in all, it was a good read, if a bit short for my taste. Seriously.

You need to leave a longer space before revealing the spoilers! I just clicked on this thread and without realising, glanced at the bold type at the top of the thread as it caught my eye and spotted the first spoiler before I had a chance to realise what it was. I haven't got the book yet: am getting it today, but now I've just discovered who dies. DAMN YOU! DAMN YOU! That's going to haunt my whole reading experience now. GODDAMNIT! It's bad enough that he dies at all, that enough makes me cry, but to have it revealed to me in such shitty circumstances is even worse.

I beg you re-edit your first entry on this thread and add in more spaces so the spoilers are at least off the bottom of the web window box when you open up and save other people from similar accidental exposes.

Very sad though i spent the last chapters just going "really? aaaaaaaaaaaaah!"
The dumbledore dialogue throughout was so unusual (having not heard much from him before now) that i was convinced there was something going on - polyjuice etc, he never did check about jam. living in hope

Oh bog off. I've got cabin fever in this isolated little farm house in an area I don't know (moved recently). So every little thing is feeling very big and annoying right now. Plus there is nothing to do and no people to see, so I was depending on the next book to retrieve my sanity. i'll get worked up if I damn well feel like it, Happy-Go-Lucky or not.

But how could she kill off Dumbledore??? and how can they have a 7th book not set at Hogwarts???

i don't think i liked it because nothing really happened except for dumbledore. And who knows how many books she is going to right now. She could very easily make it one book one part of voldemort's soul. with the final one being voldemort's body.

stupid really. just kind of the book that explains nothing but is going to be useful for future books.

I finished just now- the whole having to go to work thing is most inconvenient- and I thought it was great though I had guessed who was going to die. Seemed very couple-y but suppose she was trying to emphasise the point about love being greater than magic.

Ok. what if the final hocruxy thingy is actually in harry?! i have a sick feeling it might be and that voldemort transfered it whilst trying to kill harry with the curse when he was a baby. maybe the curse was just a bluff too. because then to destroy voldemort in the final book harry has comit the ultimate sacrifice in deciding to kill himself. but then the lurrrve that he had for others will save him cause thats the only power he truly has over voldemort (as dumbeldore drummed it). thats my theory anyway! and also wow, im such a geek!

interesting... so Harry "kills" himself and gets the last errant bit of Voldie's soul but survives in order to go after the man himself in a final showdown?

finished finally - girlfriend, mother stealing it, work and rammstein gig all getting in the way of me reading it in one sitting like all the others.
mum was ranting in the kitchen after dumbledore died. and i actually didnt want snape to turn out bad. ach well thats me for you. i tend to support the bastard characters in these kind of books. i dont like them all soppy. blegh! lol ive gone off the deep end i know.

I finished the book last night (10 hours on buses can be useful for that) and was very impressed, I certainly didn't expect that ending. I'm still toying with the seeming fairly popular idea that Snape is maybe not as evil as he seems - could it be that Dumbledore was pleading for Snape to kill him? Snape was forced to do the deed because of the vow he took, and the "hatred and revulsion" in his face could have been because of his dislike of wanting to do such a thing...

Or maybe Snape is really just an evil bugger. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
