Bare in mind Alias, the US did not get involved in WW1 until they discovered the central powers were allying with mexicans against the US.

I don't think it deserves to go on a list of 'good deeds'. The same list that crops up every single time someone mentions something critical of the US.

How very strange, it's right here on the BBC

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4204654.stm
So someone asked me "What is it you do?". I thought about it for a minute. Then I thought about it a little more. All the while I probably looked like I was staring in to space, struggling for an answer. And I was. There was only one response I could really give.

"I make sure the shit stays off the fan."

Actually the Zimmerman note which I hope that you are referring to was sent to Mexico and asked them to join the central powers *IF* the US entered the war. Make sure you have the facts strait before you talk out of your ass.

And that attitude sums up why British, Canadian, Australian, Indian, Dutch, French, Polish, Russian and so on and so forth get so angry with the American "we won the war for you" attitude. The first world war was NOT won by America, it was won by a blockade of Germany by the Royal Navy largely, the arrival of American materiel in the last stages of the war speeded the end. It was not a solo efffort. And neither was World War II, stop claiming them as your nation saving the world for freedom, democracyand motherhood. You invented none of them, you safeguard none of them and you most assuredly don't have the monopoly on any of them!

I had thought better of most of you. This is a terrible disaster where thousands of people have DIED and millions of people's lives have been destroyed, and you are turning this into an excuse for American-bashing. You're right, America doesn't need monetary help from the rest of the world. A little bit of compassion would be nice, though, and an acknowledgement that a person's nationality does not dictate whether they are a good or bad person. I detect a very upleasant connotation that all these people deserve this for being citizens of the big bad evil US. You don't have to DO anything, you need to give ZERO money to this relief effort, all that could reasonably be expected is a compassionate response and sympathy for suffering, and even that is beyond some of you. Go right ahead and judge me on my nationality. I judge you on your actions.

especially considering that for every German casualty by the US, UK, and all other countries on the western front(WW2), the Russians inflicted four. and took many more. But enough American bashing, and in the words of John Cleese "Don't mention the War"

Actually the Zimmerman note which I hope that you are referring to was sent to Mexico and asked them to join the central powers *IF* the US entered the war. Make sure you have the facts stright before you talk out of your ass.

The actual transmission contained no "if's". It was a proposal for an alliance with mexico (and possibly japan too depsite them declaring war on Germany in 1914). It was also stated that the Germans would try to remain neutral with the US, but should that fail Mexico and japan wereto be inclined to attack the US in return for German support.

The IF you are referring to came out about six weeks after the orignal transmission had been intercepted and five days after it had been released to the press. Mr Zimmerman gave a speech trying to clarify the German position after it had 'obviously' been misinterpreted by the now infamous telegram.

However, all of this (as you are well aware of) is utterly meaningless in relation to the current situation.

So, tradegy bad, aid good.
