Rectorial Elections

Postby physicist on Tue Sep 13, 2005 10:37 am

A notice has been placed in our hall regarding the elections for Rector that will happen on Friday 28th October. Does anyone know who the candidates are?

For interest, rectors of the University of St Andrews have in the past included Andrew Carnegie, Rudyard Kipling, John Cleese, Frank Muir, Tim Brook-Taylor, Donald Findlay, Andrew Neil and Clement Freud.

I've heard Dr Who related rumours. Tom Baker would be AWESOME.

only when it's time to party will we party hard.

Seriously, can you begin to imagine the awesomeness of having "Your Friend, Andrew W.K." as rector?

Everybody knows that you can't spell RAWK without AWK!

My own personal favourite of Times restaurant Critic, and GQ columnist Giles Coren won't go anywhere as Mr Coren has a pathological hatred of students, but it would be in fine St Andrews tradition to get a job because your dad did it before you...

Presumably only sons, seeing as Donald Findlay trounced Vicky Coren when she had a stab.

I'm not entirely sure what the rules are for Rector, but, seeing as Bill Gates couldn't do it, I'd love to see Google involved. Would it be possible for a company to become rector, or would we have to ask Larry Page and Sergey Brin if either of them would be interested. :)

I'm sure they would, just to annoy Bill. They're not getting on very well at the moment.

Jeremy Paxman would be good, as would Andy Marr.

It will end up being someone rubbish though, just like Clem was. Any word on Germaine Greer this time?

I emailed Boris' Office and was given a reply that the message would be passed on.
