King Creosote

Postby Ashley on Wed Jan 18, 2006 9:30 pm

Saw King Creosote last night supporting Belle & Sebastian, both marvellous. I see from the website he's playing our union in match, too. Double bonus. Well done the Union! Two decent gigs booked so far in the year (and counting!)

I assume everyone else is ecstatic?!

Well done the union?

King Creosote has been gigging around St Andrews and fife for the last 5 years its not like they just discovered him or helped him on his way or something.

come on, Ashley never said that the union discovered them, merely the union had booked a good gig, would you be saying the same thing if sigur Ros were booked? Doubt it

Ach, no I never said the Union discoved anyone Fence related! Come on, King Cresote was playing a lovely live set in Unknown Pleasures only last week!

Only it's nice to know we have a union who, this year at least, are capable of, booking lovely bands. Which, let's face it, are more likley to encourage the other student masses of coming to a Fence-related gig.

As for the other gig, I would of course add the Aberfeldy gig, which may or well be not marvellous... Anyway, I'm off to bed.

Actually, must support a few words for Falach. Nay, the union never discovered Fence and their merry band of brothers (and sisters), but still, it's nice that they booked him, (and hopefully the Pictish Trail, too....)

But u all forget that a number of Fence bands have played the union over the years. Most notably would be the first Aberfeldy Gig, Fence where there. I should know i bought the album there.

Also even though we had KT Tunstall last year, people must remeber that a lot of the big names have played St Andrews b4 going famous. ColdyPlay, Snow Patrol, just to name a few.

So to claim that u had a big name last year bonnie is not right. KT was just one in a long line of stars to grace our stage.

And thats how i see each band coming to town.

Another one bites the dust.

To claim that I had a big name last year is right.
To claim that I was the only person to ever have a big name would be wrong.
Reread my post. I was simply stating that there were quite a few decent bands last year (mucho thankso to MusFund-types). It's all building up and we had to start from somewhere. St Andrews won't become the centre of the music world overnight.

My earliest recolection of Fence is a sunday social in 2001, Fence have supplied a fare number of support acts across the years and they've all been bloody brilliant!

Kid Canaveral are playing the Union again on February 25th and will be supported by an absolutely awesome Edinburgh band called Rieser. I saw them in the Lizard during Freshers' Week and they were excellent - great playing, catchy and well-written songs and the chat wasn't bad either. Visit www.rieser.co.uk or www.myspace.com/rieser to see what you think - I would highly recommend them.

On the King Creosote theme, allow me to mention that KC played live on Star FM at the end of November.

Be sure to tune in again from March 6th for more wholesome and nutritious goodness! :-)

On the king creosote theme, get on the bus to edinburgh, get off the bus, walk up north bridge, go into the tron, insert £1 into the jukebox and the you can hear a king creosote track.

Hello! Would like to also point out that I hired King Creosote to play at the New Hall Ball in 2001 after hearing them in Aikmans...seems so long ago now!!

Atomic Kitten. Apparently the union discovered them

Oooooohhh, the Atomic kitten incident. If I remember correctly they were supporting Phats and small (yes, it was that long ago). About 1999 or 2000, I think? To suggest we discovered them is slight hyperbole. From what I remember they had sold about 30 tickets and we got ours for free. They were just dishing them out to avoid embarassment. We went in and got wrecked on free booze. I remember them dancing about and looking depressed. I'm sure it was them. I might be wrong though. Can any old timers set me straight?
