Soc Anth easiest module EVER

ok, i know SA1001 has a rep for being seriously easy but this seems fairly absurd. i went to NO lectures at all, attended 2 tutorials, didnt fill out a self-certificate, di both of my essays in 4 hours (with no prior knowledge/reading) and didnt even bother picking them up. my 'revision' consisted of 2 hours in the morning before the exam. what the fuck. i deserved to get a 2 or something. should i e-mail the dept. and tell them to buck their ideas up or what? i'm in third year so i do have a bit of experience when it come to blagging exams (although obviously i've failed one because i'm still doing first year stuff in third year), but come on!!!! how can soc anth call itself a uni subject????!!!!!

I think it's just an intelligence thing to be honest.

I did the same, regarding effort, as you for first year, first semester comp sci, CS1002, and got a 19. I think i may actually have turned up to that one with a hangover.

The thing is though, many people fail that course every year. I assume the same is also true for soc anth. (of course, having never studied soc anth I can't really comment too much.)

No, Social Anthropology really is a joke.

When I did it in first year, the second semester course was so awful I think I went to maybe 3 or 4 lectures, and even when I was there I either slept or doodled pictures of Tony Crook having spears thrown at him by the tribesmen of the Bolivip Region of Papua New Guinea.

Feeling fear as the exams were impending, I went to the very last lecture which was a revision session, and used this as the basis for what I'd write in my exam, and ended up getting a 15.

Don't ruin it for everyone else though by emailing the department; though it would be unlikely they'd change the course structure over the head of you doing well. They may think you were a tit though, and bring your mark down. Better not to tempt fate...

I have friends who do Soc Anth at Honours; they said they said the same at Sub-honours level, that it was nice and easy.

Now all I hear from them is "bloody nomads".

I got 14.5 on SA1001 but had to work reasonably hard for it, went to most of the lectures though only really did tutorial reading. And I am mainly a scientist so it's not really my thing. So yeah, I guess if you are good at blagging essays and have at least a little background knowledge then it is an easy module.

I'm sorry it’s an absolute joke of a module; I was short credits in honours and did SA1001:

Attended no lectures whatsoever, not even the enrolement one.

Went to 4 tutorials totally cold, not even having read 1 word of any of the articles.

Didn’t have the course reading booklet (if this mythical book is indeed in existence)

Completed each of the 2 essays in about 2/3 hours.

Visited the library the evening before the exam and took out a basic text book on cultural anthropology

I'm an actually considering emailing the course coordinator anonymously and telling him that the course really is a bit of a joke and that he should consider addressing the fact that someone such as myself (who isn’t by any means 'clever') can manage to obtain a 2.1 let alone a 12.1

Social Anthropology is s subject some students haven't heard of, let alone studied, before coming to St Andrews, therefore you have to start right down at the very basics. To most these are really easy, bt it is important that everyone know exactly what is going on if they are to take the subject to honours, therefore it is necessary to go right down to the very basics. In second year it gets harder, and now, in my final year, I can tell you it's bloody difficult. How easy can it be to compare the lives of gypsies in Madrid, workers in the West Indies and Scottish Highlanders through the concept of movement? Well done to anyone who gets a 15+ in that one- I didn't meet anyone who got higher than a 12. Enjoy the easy module while it's there
