Perhaps it was about being allergic to cats. And if someone allergic wanted to own a cat they'd have to find a cat that didn't have fuzzy hair. And of course cats are great, so being allergic shouldn't stop someone from owning a cat.

If someone were allergic to cats, it would most likely be the urine that caused the allergy, not the hair.
Cats clean themselves by licking, thus spreading the urine around.

Cats: Covered in piss.

Incidentally, did anyone know that one side of a cat is ALWAYS furrier/fuzzier? It's been proven by scientific tests. Anyone care to guess which?

I don't know how to quote so I won't bother!

The main cat allergen actually comes from saliva and sweat glands, this is why it is spread to the fur via washing. There is probably a small amount of the allergen in urine but not very much.

Cats are *always* fuzzier on the back of their rear legs.

Or so I'll wildly assert, based on my experience of... my cat.

Would that be the outside? Inside is more gooey than fuzzy.

Being allergic to cats I can say that how fuzzy they are makes no difference, it just depends on how much dander that particular cat has. With moggies it is pretty much pot luck, the one cat I am most allergic to is my own one ¬_¬

With pedigree breeds you've got a bit more certainty and some of the longer haired ones are actually better for allergic prone people.

I'm not sure why something in their urine would be spread all over a cat when washing - unless cats pee out their mouth ;D Or their pee is so sticky it sticks to their bum.... Hehe.

I'm away to sneeze some more now.

Partially correct, it is because they lick themselves, but it's the residue of saliva they leave on the fur that humans are allergic to, not urine :S If you live with a particular cat you'll develop an immunity of sorts, but you'll still remain allergic to other cats.

Thanks for the mental image of pissing catgirls, Steve :/

On the topic of random overheard conversations, I was at the rugby tournament in Savannah on Saturday and heard someone yell 'GOD DAMN MASHED POTATOES AND MACARONI CHEESE LIKE A SON OF A BITCH!' Still not sure why (unless they were talking about Boston Market, yum).
