Assuming you're addressing me, grandpa, I don't bogg [sic] off because my contributions here are at least (at very least) as valuable as yours.

Actually, I think your contributions are less valuable than mine - seeing as this is a website for the use of St Andrews students, not exclusively so, but someone who is not a student here is necessarily going to have a lesser extent of use, and thus a lesser extent of feedback on the matters contained herein. So, as you can see, your opinions count for less than mine.

As I said, bog off.

Grandpa, i don't think there's anything pedantic about questioning your - what could be kindly described as eccentric - use of English.

And I don't think there's any need to be quite so rude :)

Why does this make the opinions and comments of alumni of any less merit than a student, particularly one that talks such herculean volumes of nonsense as yourself, grandpa

If you want your own personal board where your word is gospel and your opinions count for more than others, I suggest you piss off and set yourself up one of your own. Until then, you have to mix it with the rest of us where all opinions are equal and anyone can say what they want.(well, except those of the moderators and admins)

Actually, grandpa, the bizarre usage is more amusing than anything - though the instance here really was just plain wrong. But it does tend to mask your meaning, that's what I take issue with. You make no sense.

Nope, afraid not.

Quoting Grandpa from 18:12, 22nd Mar 2006But, and this you would do well to learn, your english will necessarily differ from that of some one 5, 10 or more years younger than you, due simply to the fact that wherever you come from language will be different, and more so from generation to generation, either in the same place or elsewhere.

Only just noticed this lengthy edit, but here's a short reply to it - are we not roughly the same age, old stick? Actually, I think I may be a smidge older - you often say the youngsters should listen to you, well, by that logic ought you not to listen to me?

Ah, another Grandpa 'I am so old' thread.

Didn't you say on the Union thread you'd stop correcting other people's English as your own is rubbish? Can't teach an old dog new tricks;-)

flarewearer i wasnt expecting ministry of sound, but i was expecting something a bit better than the bop. they say the student years are the best of your life, well i was miserable during my time at st andrews. yeah it's one of the finest academically, but the university experience is as much about socialising and having fun as learning. i just felt out of place at st andrews.

To be fair, when I came for a open day I was warned that there are no night clubs, etc. All my friends knew that too and we manage to have fun when we go out, so surely it's your own fault for coming here and not being particularly imaginative.

im more imaginative than most probably. it was the people there as much as the lack of nightlife that i couldn't deal with.
