It looks like any dns lookup is leading to that page. I can only access pages that I have already been to- where the dns address is cached.

I just confirmed it.

All lookups to the St Andrews DNS servers are having that IP address returned.

It is especially annoying as my computer keeps trying to connect to idisk.mac.com - but as it does not have the IP address in the chache, it keeps getting referred to there.

It's fixed. However, you will need to flush your DNS cache to make things work.

Edit: I may have spoken too soon...

for a moment there, I thought you were talking about Jonathan Frakes. Now that'd be cool.

I still can't log into hotmail or MSN from Resnet, a few minutes ago the screen returned a message about Jothan and a server, and now it's returning a 404 not found message. This is annoying. I'm wasting more time not checking my e-mail than I would if it worked.

as a temp fix... resolver servers 138.251.66.4 and 138.251.32.10 appear to be unaffected by this (IE hotmail/idisk.mac.com etc works when resolved from these.)

I am incredibly computer illiterate, and this bastard keeps popping up on lots of the pages I try to visit (Sinner and Facebook are among the very few unaffected)

How do I make this hell stop? Can anyone explain it to me in easy-to-follow steps? *cries* He's even got IMDB, the bastard! *stamps wee feet*

how do I rid this w***** and his site from my computer?
Also, passwords for other sites seem to have been rendered useless. Any advice on how to fix this?

Cheers...

as above. Go into your network settings and select the device that connects you to resnet. Right click and go to 'device properties'. Select the 'internet protocol (tcp/ip)' line and hit the 'propeties' button. switch the 'obtain dns servers automatically' to the 'use the following servers' option. Then in the dialog box put the two IP's in from above (one in each field row) then click ok..all should be well after (ymmv/iwfm etc).

And why has no-one told him that 'Jothan' isn't a name?

ohh...if you're on some form on *nix or possibly OSX then you should just be able to edit the lines in /etc/resolv.conf with the above ip's instead. changes should be instant.

On Mac OS X: type in the Terminal
'sudo lookupd -flushcache'
Then your password when it asks for it.

What the hell?

Anyone else on resnet getting linked to this?

I just saw this thread here on the sinner, and I wanted to comment that I did not do anything to cause these problems that look like plagued folks here.

I, every once in a while, am a victim of shenanigans that some bad player folks pull with DNS to mess with me. The clever folks who do it manage to in a way that disrupts folks, and they in turn talk about it in communities like yours.

I don't find out about it until well afterwards, but I try to respond so that it does not perpetuate the negative backlash.

If you apply some pragmatic common sense to the issue, why would I do something malicious to draw negative attention to myself like this?

Instead, it is likely some bad player out there who is making things hard for all of you and definitely for me.

I spend far too much energy working on things like Internet Society awareness, ICANN, and things that build a positive reputation for myself.

I know all the unkind things said here were born from frustration, but I assure folks it tweren't me that did it.
