Neither "Wimpey" nor "Whimpy", but "Wimpy"

Damn having left last yr I had forgotten all about those delicious wraps.

Yes, burgers cooked in toasty presses. A Winning combination... Named of course after the great J. Wellington Wimpy, the perpetual hamburger eater from the Popeye cartoons.

I would gladly pay you Tuesday, for a hamburger today.

I'm a bit sick of all these stores that we really don't need: Coffee shops, health food stores, a potential M&S food hall? Put something useful there...

If McDonalds ever moves in, I hope it's on the day that I leave this town for good.

i wish there was an hmv or virgin megastore here, that would be better than a holland and barratts! or they could put in another clothes shop, that would be more useful!

Just incase no one else can: I remember when we had a Wimpey in St Andrews.

If my memory serves me right Wimpy was in Bell Street, in the unit that is currently occupied by Thomas Cook travel agents. I just remember it and no more, must have been about 1979 or around that time.

What we need is another post office. It's ridiculous, everytime I go in there the queue is nearly out the door, and they NEVER have all the tellers working. GRRRR it makes me so mad that they closed the sub-post office on North Street and now the main one isn't a quick five minute job any more!

i doubt there'll ever be any big fast food chains in this town. i heard the guy that owns PM's is influential is always blocks any applications. just a rumour i heard a while back though and probably far from the truth.

i never heard that one. but then when i heard the mcdonalds one i dont think aikmans even had a late license (i never went there, too expensive). it wouldnt really surprise me though.

maz: there already is another post office unless its closed in the last few months. useless for all the people who stay in town/halls but i find the one between kinnessburn road and lamond drive (i think its on pipeland road) is good.

AS far as I remember it was the guy that ran the filthy armpit that was/is The Tudor that was responsible for the licencing problems, he may or may nothave been the same guy that ran / runs PMs. Either way, both PMs and the Tudor are / were utter wank and a bad example of how to run an establishment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the community council have no powers to block an application because of who the company is, what their business practices are or how multinationally global they are anyway. They are only concerned with "matters of signage, litter and retail space". Anyway, St Andrews is already chock full of national chains, I don't know who anyone is kidding that there is something special about it's shopping experience.

I will not correct you since the Community Council cannot BLOCK anything, but it can place an objection but only on valid planing grounds as you have noted.

Paul Carey
WIMPY was indeed in Bell St. Well done. It would not be fare to ask you where the "Picture House" was since you will also know that and work for the NPH.
