was my first dip - and was great :)

the atmosphere was amazing n complete with firespinners and bongo drums :) , tho walking back to new hall from castle sands with a million pebbles in your shoes, soaking and legs stinging isnt something im dying to do again :P

still, was an awesome time - does anyone know the reason for it, what is behind the tradition?

I thought it was to remove the 'curse' if you stood on the PH initials, or any other thing you did that means by random custom that you're gonna fail your degree (i've heard there are over 100). So yeah, apparently running into the freezing sea (16 degrees my arse!) will ensure you won't fail your degree; possibly by killing you so you CAN'T fial your degree, or do anything else as a matter of fact.

One of the most awesome weekends ever! The dip was absolutely fantastic, definitely one to remember!! My feet completely froze though, I was convinced I'd never feel them again...

You're all a bunch of weaklings, today was a doddle. Try going in at 7:30 mid december...now that was BLOODY cold! I reckon I've been dipping about a dozen times since september but I know a guy who's done it more than 30 times!

This was my 3rd May dip...and I have never ever had to queue for so long before to get to the beach! Does anyone know why there were so many queues? Were there more people there than usual? We went along at 5am or so, the usual time that I have gone in previous years.

I think the only problem was around the 5am mark - a lot of people arrived at the exact same time as a lot of people decided to leave.

I think it was because the tide was so high, there wasn't as much beach as usual

Great fun as always. Hardly any beach left though as a result of an abnormally high tide. I know the beach is always packed, but it's nice to be able to spread out a wee bit.

Oh, and what happened to the massive bonfire that's usually throwing up cinders and ash by the steps down to the beach? It's bloody lethal when you're trying to clamber down onto the sand, but most welcome post-dippage.

I can vouch for aunty edna, we went running in together. It was great!

I'd never done the May dip before, but because it was my last year I thought I might as well. When I got there and saw the masses of people and the hint of daylight it was completely surreal. Not only that, you couldn't see the beach so all you saw was the sea and the people standing against it. It was odd, kind of eerie in fact. And the sea looked grey and thick, it was creepy.

I had an excellent time!

Also: Auntie Edna - did you go in at all? You seemed in quite a flap when I saw you - "Just think of what your dearly departed husband would say" I said, but you just warbled "I'm seventy six you know!" and wandered off.

Second time was so much better than last year. We actually got a fantastic bit of swimming done too. Was in for about 20 minutes :D

Lots of fun though. Absolutely freezing. I quite enjoyed fighting Poseidon and Neptune though, but when I staggered out again I was saying "Ha! I fought Poseidon and survived!" only for a really big wave to pass me, then drain pulling me back into the see with it: landing me on my arse to get hit by the next wave!

Tremendous fun. Was absolutely mobbed though.

Awesome fun.

However I've only slept 5 hours in the last 35 and last night's caffeine is still pulsing through my veins. Feel a little odd.

I thoroughly enjoyed all of it, including three dips, scalding myself with coffee because i was shivering too much too hold it and my daring escape up the grass bank to avoid the demonic queues to leave at around 0540.

The May dip rules.

The caffeine. Today felt weird, way too much caffeine.

It was my first Dip this year, and I'm so glad I did it :) The atmosphere on the beach was incredible (even if it did get a bit crowded towards 5am) and it was a fantastic experience! Thanks to everyone who made it so memorable :)

Oh, and Bizarre Atheist...am exceedingly sorry I missed the sight of you climbing up the grass bank, ha ha :P
