Champions League, we're having a laugh!

One of the most memorable games I've ever been to, from one of the most memorable seasons. Despite all the criticism of Vladimir Romanov, all the claims that we'd bottle it, the pyschological significance of the 3rd of May and all the disrution throughout the season, we've managed to remain 2nd for the first time in 12 years, making us the first Non-Old Firm team from Scotland to qualify for the Champions league. Next season, who'd bet against us winning the title?
It was worth handing in an essay late to see Steven Pressley come over to the Hearts support with arms aloft, its hard to explain but it was a truely moving moment.

So, as I battle to finish an essay (its not happening) I have to stop my mind from drifting to the Nou Camp or San Siro, or wherever else the good ship HMFC will sail to next...

If someone had told me 2 years ago that Hearts challange for the title for half the season, then would qualify for the Champions League and get to a Scottish cup final, I'd have laughed until my lungs collapsed. I guess a lot of people might not know the story, but before the much chastized Vladimir Romanov bought our club, the previous 'owner' (of about 20%) nearly bankrupted us, forcing us to sell our proud home and move to Murrayfield. On the back of almost weekly protests, he refused to quit, only being slowly bought out and toppled by our current Russian leader.

This is a two fingered salute to those who claim Scottish football only has two sides worth bothering about, to the media who constantly tried to undermine us, and to any manager (Mowbray and Calderwood in particular) who refused to give us credit for the way we played our football.

And yes, we HAVE qualified for the Champions League. The 'League' bit doesn't just refer to the GROUP stages you know, which is why it doesn't rename itself when it returns to being a knockout competition.

But it does! Gretna and East Fife!

Anyway, it's always nice to see a team that isn't the old firm doing well, especially one from my fair home city. Even if they are the wrong shade of green.

Interesting that you should mention East Fife actually, they are another club with a vile owner. He criticised Hearts for appointing Graham Rix (jailed for unlawful sex with a 15 year old) then appointed David Baikie, a man who was convicted of beating someone up so badly that they are permanently disfigured! I also think he made his daughter chairman/woman or something incredible like that as well.

Having various friends in and around Edinburgh, both Jambo's and Hibee's, personally I couldn't have cared less who won the Scottish cup, and still don't. What I did want, and unfortunalty did not get was an Edinburgh Derby Final, because that would have really put two fingers up to the "Old Firm". Ach well, we can't all have what we want. I do seriously hope that Hearts continue to the Championship and at the very least do themselves proud, because it will do the Scotiish Football proud in general. Unfortunatly the old firm have done a very good job of giving us a bad name due to all the sectarianism, and it is about time something was done about it.

And that Concludes my rant for the Day!!

Because of course the Old Firm are to blame for sectarianism. Its not as if this problem is the consequence of decades of history. And of course, fans of other Scottish clubs have never been guiltly of sectarian chanting.

Yes that's why they call it the Champions League Qualifying rounds. Meaning those who win, will qualify for the Champions League.

The best bit of course being that it means Gretna are in the UEFA cup, even if they don't win the Scottish cup (and I recon they will :-)

). And if Boro can reach the UEFA cup final, so can Gretna...

Love the fact that at any proper sized european stadium the entire town could go and still not take up the full away team allocation!

I'm a very happy Jambo today, wearing my strip with pride...well, I always do, but even more so today!

It's great to split the Old Firm and hopefully we can build on that next season. But in general, thank God we got rid of Rix when we did. I was less skeptical when he was appointed and wanted to give him every chance but the football we played under him was awful to watch at times. Took everybody a while to warm to him as well from what I hear from a couple of players.

Ivanauskas has got us playing football again and it has shown since he has taken over, he's gone out to win every match and we've played some great stuff at times. Maybe he should get the job but feel there might be a new manager on the way as has been previously said. Anyways, hopefuly with a bit of investment over the summer we can make the Champions League Group Phase and be more consistent to pose a greater title threat. With all the turmoil this season, a bit of continuity would be nice.
