EDITED: On account of it being "limp-wristed pish-poshing" and not "limp wristed-pish poshing", looks like I'll only get a B in my Higher Tomfoollery and Design Shennanigans[SP?]!

Limp-wristed pish-poshing eh? If only I could...but I don't think they gave that as a Higher in Cowdenbeath...

7 1s at Standard Grades[Shitty school, only did seven!]
2 As 3 Bs at Higher[Maths, Computing, English, Chemistry,Physics]
BBC Advanced Higher [Maths, Physics, Chemistry].

I certainly had no qualms about coming here, but it wasn't a first choice scenario. Like many other Scots at this Uni, I was fortunate enough to get 6 Unconditionals from the outset. It came down to a three way toss up between 1* St Andrews[TheoPhys and Maths] and 2* Edinburgh[AI&Maths or AstroPhys]. Aberdeen just missed out[fantastic place there, I just felt the departments here were better, so it lost out].

Glasgow and Dundee didn't really stand much of a chance in the end, I'm not a fan of the places. As for the final decision...St Andrews just felt more...'right', like I'd always been here...

Not only that, but Bruce Sinclair subversively twists your arm up your back too!

Frank

PS And I've never looked back!

Yes I was a reject too, Cambridge, Edinburgh was more my second than St Andrews (which I thought looked a bit weird from the prospectus), I think I only came here because it was sunny when I came to visit and E. J. Lowe at Durham said St Andrews had a good philosophy department.

The reject thing is so silly, better to have tried and failed. I don't see whats wrong with applying to various Unis and then picking from the ones that have you.

I am very happy anyway with choosing this weird little town. Goodbye weird little town.

Eight 1s and a 2
Three As, Three Bs
B and a C at Advanced Higher

Coming back for a resit year *yay*

And yes, St Andrews was most definitely my first choice, and it really pisses me off when relatives/family friends/smartarses go "oh, St Andrews... didn't get into Oxbridge then?". No I didn't, cuz I didn't apply

Sorry, just found that quite interesting. When I told people I was going to St Andrews, all I got was "Oh, are you going to meet Prince William?". Over and over again. It got to the point where I started saying "Yes, actually" just to watch people's reactions.

For my part, St Andrews was my first choice university, and I'm proud to say that.
At school, I had 1111111 (SGs), AAAAAA (Hs) and AC (AHs)...not that it makes a lot of difference, as various posters on this thread have already pointed out.

I remember being told by the St Andrews admissions rep who came to my school 'If you get over 1250 on your SAT you're pretty much assured a place'. Of course, that was in the dark ages, before they had to beat American girl applicants away with sticks.

Hehe.

When someone came to my school to recruit, one of the girls (one of the obviously smitten with a famous former student) asked what kinds of SAT scores they were looking for. The rep replied, "We don't really look at them because they aren't a good measuring tool...monkeys have been proven to get 1100s through randomly hitting buttons."

The girl replied, "YES! I beat a monkey!"

He said, "Obviously not by much."

It was in that moment that I decided to come to St Andrews. I have never looked back - except to laugh at that girl.

I knew nothing about St Andrews when I applied, I put it down because decent universities which take beginner classicists are pretty thin on the ground. The open day was wonderful though - now I know the place better I fancy being an ambassador next year.

[to think that some people came here with those sorts of results purely out of a limp-wristed pish-poshing because they couldnt get into oxbridge

What the hell is limp-wristed pish-poshing, and do I stand accused of it?

That's not fucking up! I got BCCCC at Highers, mainly because I freaked out before the exams - never a good idea!
But i was allowed into advanced Highers & got good grades! woo!
Aren't they getting rid of Standard Grades now? They have started giving 3rd/4th yrs intermediates now instead of SG's.

Was between StA and Cambridge. Glad that I am going to StA because from what I've heard Oxbridge people only work really hard and drink.

I mean who wants to work really hard?

1400/2140 SAT. I'm heading there this fall, can't wait! It was definitely one of my top choices.

I feel like such an idiot compared to other peoples scores, even though i did quite well in comparison to many people at my highschool.

St Andrews was my first choice, Edinburgh second, Glasgow - my back up, i really didnt want to live at home.

I got 11222223 (English, French, Computing, History, Music, Maths, Spanish, physics) at standard grade.

I got AAB (English, History, Computing) & B (intermediate biology - bastards didnt let me do higher physics or crash higher bio) in fifth year

I got BCC (Geography, Biology, Music) in sixth year.
Im still really pissed about that Geography grade - that should have been an A but i freaked before the exam because it was my conditional for getting into here.

I failed higher Maths TWICE!!! and i failed a crash Accounts course in sixth year...its a bloody wonder i got into uni at all really.

it drove me bonkers when you said you were going to st andrews and people started going on about prince william - a few of my relatives even hinted at me to try and go out with him for fuck sake.
all i wanted was to go to uni!
