The guy in the room next to me (New Hall) had his door pissed on a few nights ago, apparently.

People have been saying that there's an unusual number of utter arseholes in New Hall this year, though. I'm a first year (moving to Regs next year), so I wouldn't necessarily know.

There are jerk-offs wherever you go. McIntosh doesn't seem to have all that many of them. Might have something to do with the fact that numerous fines were imposed and two poeple were thrown out of hall first semester.

I didn't download it guvner. It fell off the back of the Internet!
Now some people weren't happy about the content of that last post. And we can't have someone not happy. Not on the internet.

A few weeks ago someone set off a fire extinguisher in our corridor - so far as I could tell they sprayed it all over one door in particular, and then decided to soak all of the surrounding carpet and dump the fire extinguisher in bits (with loud clanking noises) all the way down the corridor. Made even more irritating by the fact that it was at 3am.

The RA came and took the fire extinguisher away, but so far as I know that's all that happened. The weird thing is that all the nearby fire extinguishers were still in place, so whoever it was must have picked it up somewhere else in hall and then dragged it all the way to our corridor.
If Jack Bauer was put in a room with Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler and Nina Myers and handed a gun with two bullets, he'd shoot Nina twice.

I have to say this year New Hall has attracted more then its fair share of numpties......Someone a couple of weeks ago threw up in a corridor on the 4th floor (the cleaners didn't clean it till the late afternoon so it was there for a good number of hours).

I really don't understand why New Hall has attracted the numpties but I hope for the sake of people who will be living here next year, that you see a decrease!

Stop talking so much exasperatingly opinionated twaddle. By your logic we should all move to a country where there is a 0% rate of crime, otherwise expect to be victims of criminal activity.

You daft arse.

I love you, what an ace reply.

But to be fair, a lot of people do expect to be victims of criminal activity, however subtly they express it.

I love you too, but what I meant to say was it's devastatingly gourmless to dismiss loony's problem on the basis that in hall you should expect to have wankers. by all means, I concede that the wankers are there, but considering that they too are students means that maybe, just maybe, they'd like to be wankers to someone who isn't revising. And not at 3am.

I can expect to be burgled, but I do not expect the police to say 'well, what did you expect?' when I come to them looking for justice.

and justice there shall be.

I admit, saying that it's harmless loony's own fault, was a bit strong.

What I meant was that, if you are living in that sort of accomodation, you can expect that sort of behaviour from time to time, that's just the way halls are.

I on the other hand don't love you. I agree with the initial conclusion- you must be a DAFT ARSE.

Maybe if people started knocking on your door in the middle of the night, and you posted on here about it, some TWAT might put a post up saying "Well, you shouldn't have moved into a private flat- you should have stayed in halls cos then you could have told the wardens".

IT makes my blood boil that such wankers as people running about all night like that in revision week have been offered a place at St Andrews. Honestly, if I was an academic and knew some of my students were doing this type of thing I'd do my best to get them expelled. They are undeserving of a place in St Andrews. Or any university, for that matter.

It's maybe a bit easier to be pragmatic about these things when you aren't a stressed-out, sleep-deprived, final year student with anemia and no breakfast because the wankers that kept you awake all night have nicked it. I would certainly be a furious sobbing wreck.

Anyway I think it's the principle of the thing. Doing any innoocent thing or expecting crime may happen does not make the crime your fault or make you "deserving" of it as Rob and Lodestone have said.

LOSER

Postby MadDog20/20 on Thu May 11, 2006 12:58 am

People who complain about noise are the lowest of the low.

You deserve to get picked on, holed away in your room being a miserable loser.

My last dorm was ruined by sad losers studying all the time and not contributing to the general atomosphere in any way whatsoever.

Shut up, stop your whinging, get some earplugs and get a life.

I listen to feminists and all these radical gals - most of them are failures. They've blown it. Some of them have been married, but they married some Casper Milquetoast who asked permission to go to the bathroom. These women just need a man in the house. That's all they need. Most of the feminists need a man to tell them what time of day it is and to lead them home. And they blew it and they're mad at all men. Feminists hate men. They're sexist. They hate men - that's their problem. ~Jerry Falwell

A contract for service provision for the University exists, does it not?

RAs don't get paid. They receive a discount on their hall fees.

Wardens receive a living allowance to compensate them for their time, but to be honest, it's not a great deal considering that a being a warden isn't a job - it's a lifestyle, and it doesn't stop.

You're absolutely right, wanting to study in peace during revision week is ridiculous. The same goes for actually expecting to be able to get a good night's sleep before your exams. Everyone should be 'cool' and not do any work and we should all fail together.

In fact we should all just forget about our exams because revision isn't cool, neither is doing well in exams or getting a good degree or even slightly taking advantage at being at one of the best universities in the UK. Man that would suck. Instead, let's run around screaming and shouting - now *that* would be cool.

I'm equally inclined to agree with both parties here -- on the one hand this shouldnt happen to a final year studying for their disertation, on the other hand such acts add to the general bizarity and character of living in a hall -- and especially a place like New Hall. The thing is: NH is by far large enough to house both camps if the residence assignment people had done their jobs properly and put first years with first years, seconds with seconds, thirds with thirds, and fourths with fourths and so on. Annexes for postgrads and final years, a la John Burnett only for postgrads and final years, are also a good idea in my opinion. No one who doesn't bargain for this kind of thing should have to endure it.

In any case, just be very very glad you dont live in uni hall. The sensation of being brutally arseraped by the institutional bureaucracy of a system which is completely ambivalent to your most basic of personal needs can not be an easy sensation to bare.

Or be thankful your hall isn't about to be demolished.
