Car Repairs - best garage?

Postby Guest on Thu May 11, 2006 3:20 pm

I need to get a few things done to my car - where is the best and cheapest place, preferably in St Andrews?

At VW I managed to get a student discount. Depends on who you get though.

I couldn't understand what they said to me at that garage next to Morrisons. Strong dundee accents I think.

The VW garage was very helpful to me. I was in need of a replacement mounting screw that had sheared off on my car and they gave me it for free.

Have not yet managed to find any reasonably cheap garages up here. Bassaguard is prob the best of the bunch. I personaly now do all the work on my car myself, using a motor factors down in Hawick, in the Borders, called TMS. They have to be one of the cheapest places in Scotland!!

Good Luck in finding a garage.

Bridgend Garage in Gaurdbridge. Best one around and very reasonable prices.

I get all the work done on my car at McConechy's (just about right next door to the vw garage) and they are fantastic. Been going there for 2 years and have had no probs, they even try to save you money, last time i went there with a problem they didnt even charge me.

Indeed, my dad always bought older second-hand cars cheaply, and they usually ran pretty well. In fact, I will be inheriting dad's hilariously old Ford Escort once I pass my test... fun :)

Whatever you do dont go to the peugot garage... i had an MOT done there because they were advertising them for £35. I needed 2 new brake tubes and a little bit of fluid... it took them 2 weeks and £330 to do it

Then you have been seriously ripped of!!

One MOT = £35
Brake tubes = approx £20-£30
Brakefluid = £10

By my reckoning, even when including labour this should be max £150 job. This is also bearing in mind that if the car failed its first MOT and stayed i the Garage, it does not need to be re-MOTed.

That is a serious OUCH!!
