Regular Server Times...?

Postby Greebo on Mon Oct 07, 2002 3:18 am

Ok, been doing some thinking.
The network server idea seems to be going well - people play on occasion. The main problem is that much of the time there's only a couple of people on which makes for a pretty dull game.

So I figure this.
If the server(s) were to go up at a regular time for a set period of time, would people be willing to connect at those times on a fairly regular basis (not talking every day or nothing) so that we would have numbers?

For example I could put a server up at 8pm Mon-Thurs, playing CS, DoD, TFC or whatever (Quake 3, Medal of Honour, Quake II etc - ask me if I have it).
It would play for 1 1/2 hours - 2 hours. Then go down.

Do you think the regularity would give us more people to play with?

(Most weekends I'd put a server up from friday afternoon to sunday evening - can arrange your own time)

Had another thought while writing this - I presume there's people here from different halls, and I presume you know other people in your halls who like gaming...Inter hall tournament? Just an idea.

A Quake 3 hall league could be fun amongst other things...

I think we would need to get some sort of sign up session and someone to organise matches...

Q3 or CS would be best options I think - they're most popular games.

Let me whip up something for a poster then we can see who's interested.

If we did a Q3 league would we do a map rotation? Or just the most people's favourite map?

We should also use the latest version of Q3 so v1.30 or v1.31, although latest offical release (non-beta) for mac is v1.30 so that prob is best to use.

Actually you can use v1.31 on the mac as the latest beta 4 version works with the pc v1.31 so it doesn't matter which is used. Just been testing ;)

Oh yes, thoroughly :D Works fine, no problems, etc etc. 1.31 OK for me.

Volunteer as a server btw :) if no one else is willing.
