Asceticism should be reserved for spiritual undertakings... extreme asceticism for the sake of prolonging your life is as laughable as, I don't know, being a miser in order to never go wanting.

What about hat woman who dies aged about 90 and who smoked a packet of cigarettes every day since the age of 15? Ok, i'm not sure about all the figures but she smoked a lot and died very old.

Different people's bodies work differently. And in the immortal words of Queen, 'who wants to live forever?'

I seem to recall a Dilbert cartoon in which Dilbert returns from jogging and Dogbert tells him he looks awful and asks why he does it. Dilbert replies that he'll live longer if he keeps fit. Dogbert reasons that it's not worth it, because any time gained is matched by the hours of agony involve din getting them.

Obviously that would be funnier if I could find and post the actual cartoon.

PS "fewer" than two legs, not less.

People who do more exercise suffer in older age as they literally wear their bones out. This has happened to many people i know. So I do little exercise in the hope of not wearing my body out.

there's always yoga and swimming and walking to get where you need to go instead of driving or taking the bus.

Those are good ways to exercise, and I don't think they'd unduly stress your joints and etc.
