Rocky Horror Picture Show!!!

Postby LJ on Sun Oct 20, 2002 8:17 pm

Oh my god! What a great night!!! I went to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show on Saturday night in Glasgow and it was fantastic!!! I loved the film before I went, but the stage production was something else, and what can I say about Jonathan Wilkes's Frank'n'Furter other than - "Oh my god! That guy is soooooooo sexy!"

Did anyone else go to see it in Glasgow last week, or is anyone planning to head to Edinburgh this week to see it?

Don't dream it, be it!

Just to be pedantic before I go to bed - what we saw was the Rocky Horror Show.
Not the picture version, there being no picture :-p

Hehehe some poor sod made a "neck" comment to Rhona Cameron and got "You're not quite getting this are you, dear?" right back at them.

Yeah I heard that! Thought it was great the way the actors played off the audience! And when someone shouted "nice arse" to Frank, that was great! Exactly what I'd been thinking all night! Did you see any signs that said we weren't allowed to take photos, 'cause I got a nasty look from one of the stewards when I took some. Wasn't it just a fab night though!?!?!?

I think they disapprove of photography
a) cos the flash puts the actors off and
b) you're recording a copywrited show

*shrugs*
Anyhoo - great times

Prefer the cinema experience myself but there you go.

See... that's what confused me! It's all very well saying it puts the actors off... but surely shouting things at them (ie nice arse, and 'what are you doing after the show') is more offputting? Did you dress up by the way?

Nah didn't dress up - couldn't be arsed (y'know I could've put "to be frank" on the end of that - I could've but I didn't).

The actors expect the shouting though and usually cope with it, especially since that it usually comes in the same places each time. Photography on the other hand is impossible to predict

btw didya catch the name of the sax player? I missed it.

The saxaphone player was called Dave Webb, according to my programme. He was fab wasn't he?! Did you notice that there were quite a few kids there? My goodness! I wouldn't have thought it was really a kids thing! Maybe I just had a sheltered upbringing!! I kinda wish I was going through to Edinburgh this week to see it again!

Ahh thanks - was annoying me (never bought a program)

Yeah I noticed a lot of kids there too - mind you the youngest I saw where I was, was about 12/13.

I saw one up on the balcony who looked about 5. And there were 2 sitting in front of me who looked about 7 and 10. I noticed their mother cringing at quite a few points!

Who did you think gave the best performance?

Hrm....good question.
Frank was very good - especially given he's in it most of the time.
Wasn't too sure about Riff Raff....
Magenta said bugger all.
Columbia had the accent spot on (compared to the film) so I liked her.
Janet was also really good
Brad was good but not the best.
Eddie/Dr Scott was done really well too now that I think about it.
Rocky was....different from what I'd expect but still good
Rhona as the narrator I loved.

I honestly don't know who to give the best performance too - probably be really boring and give it to Frank.

Yeah, I'd go for Frank too, but I think that's partly because he was so damn sexy! He was really funny too, which I think added a lot to the show.

Rocky - nice body! I thought he was good too though, although he doesn't have very much to say.

Brad + Janet were pretty good, but they've never been my favourite characters anyway!

Columbia - I was a bit disappointed about her costume - not enough sparkles! The acting was good though.

Magenta + Riff Raff - They've always scared me a bit to be honest with you!

Dr Scott/Eddie - was pretty good, but not as good as the film. Don't think anyone could sing that song as well as meatloaf!

Rhona Cameron - Fab! It was great the way she played off the audience and added some more humour to it.

Overall, it just HAD to be Frank!!!

Did you get worried that they were missing out the Time Warp when they went on to Sweet Transvestite? I did! Although, Jonathan's rendition of Sweet Transvestite was FAB!!!

I was there every night (just the late shows on fri and sat tho) and managed a different costume every time. I'm in a alocal RHPS shadow cast, and we took up the front row for pretty much the entire run. I have fallen in love with Rhona Cameron!
Will be in Edinburgh on Saturday.

Did either of you think that when they had the end thing when magenta and riff raff were all changed etc - didn't they sound just like Daleks?

Mmmm.... possibly... I'm not really into Dr Who. I did notice that they sounded 'strange' though... presume it was to add to the effect. I did notice that Riff Raff's hunch had gone at the end though - must have been with the happiness of going home!

For the person who was at the late show on Saturday night... did Frank tell you lot that you were the best audience too?

I was really disappointed with it. Maybe not so much the show, but the audience. Ok, so we went on a wednesday night, but you'd have thought glasgow could have made a better effort. We were practically the only people to dress up, and no one shouted out anything until after they had hit the bar at interval. I think maybe 15 people at most did the time warp. Hmph.

Incidentally, I would not recommend running around Glasgow at night, in the freezing cold, wearing nothing but a pair of boxers and a lab coat...

Really? It wasn't like that on Saturday. There were quite a few people dressed up, but certainly not the amount I was expecting. People were doing a lot of shouting too, including bits and pieces that weren't planned - if you know what I mean! From what I could see, most of the audience were up dancing at the timewarp, although it maybe took us all until the 1st chorus to get up. I was a bit worried that going to the early show on the Saturday might make it a bit quieter, but I don't really think it made too much difference. I had a great night anyway!
