Hell I'm not taking part this year. I'll either be at work or in bed with a chest infection. However I encourage everyone to have fun and take care of yourselves, and each other. It is possible to have drunken fun without death and destruction you know. Try something less damaging to the town, like porking a fat girl. Not only will you be keeping youself out of trouble, you'll be giving the fatty a boost in self esteem.

I suspect the Citizen is doing it's usual "students are the eptiome of evil" thing but biting the heads off chickens is taking it a bit far, even for them...

(Before any MM fan wants to correct me, I know the rumours about him sacrificing chickens at his show are false. I went to one for a start).

I just got on here to comment on that very article!

Unfortunately this is simply a case of standard media exaggeration - a guy was hit by a car, but he was hardly 'flinging himself' - he stepped out into the road without looking. Stupid thing to do, but he wan't even that drunk, just inattentive.

A chicken's head was *cut* off by a gatecrasher at a party where chickens were waiting to be raisin receipts. Head-biting!? I think not.

The beans thing is true, though of course the beans had other students as their target and things went marginally awry.

Raisin Weekend was the lead story on the ITV version of Reporting Scotland one night last week. They reported the alleged biting the heads off chickens. Surely the burden of proof lies with The Citizen on this, something I'd guess they cannot fulfil.

This just in: Lamp-post traumatises woman and baby: Refusal to defer to the local Scottish family unit! Shock Horror (installed by an english company perhaps?), Exclusive to all reactionary local papers!
(in any event, by default any road accident involving a pedestrian is the drivers fault...in England and Wales anyway.)

This is where I object to the assumption that I, purely in my capacity as a student, should be tarnished with the same brush as some animal abusing shit-head. I spent my rasin sunday in a state of perpetual merryment! I didn't get so drunk that I needed my stomach pumped, and I didn't sacrifice any scottish children in the name of Thatcher. Why am I to be demonised for the actions of others?

Also, why is Raisin monday being threatened? Surely the inherent behavioural problems are a result of the Sunday drinking, not the Monday foam fight. Intrinsically linked or not, the Monday causes minimal disruption (less a day off from lectures).

As for the "Cancelling raisin Sunday" well pish and tish to that! even if they "Cancel it" I will be adopting academic kids next year. I will be hosting a party. I will let randoms i've probably never met since orientation week come along and drink my booze. The buck might stop at Prof. Lang's office door, but the university certainly does not! Raisin weekend will continue with or without the tacit support of the ivory towered court. There's nothing to stop the Association allowing the foam fight elsewhere. Perhaps on the green behind the union building if it comes down to it.

The Chihuahua at least would be in good position to report on the terrorising of students on 'Grape Sunday' in mid November when locals bit of student's heads with chickens and allegedly fling cars in front of babies?

According to the two police officers I spoke to in the Union tonight, the University is NOT speaking on behalf of the police in the emails they're sending round. The police have had a very realxed briefing on it, and will not be "clamping down" any more than they would do on a Friday night.

Edit: inshaala, the senior student was merely passing on information obtained from somewhere else. It was not his own words, I think he made that reasonably clear at the start. Before you start waffling on about GCSE history, please save yourself embarassment by reading the information given to you.
