Last night + This Morning

Welcome to the RockSoc board, it gets worse here every day... talk about RockSoc, rock music, plain rocks or other silly irrelevant drivel. All are welcome: members & non-members, of the past, present & future.

Either way, as I type me and some chums are figuring out the most ball-breaking rockout set ever.

And power metal doesn't even make much of an appearance :)

A cd, obviously!

Well we don't normally get that many CDs. And we have to listen to them, but if the listening sessions are open at least people can't complain. They don't HAVE to come.

I'd like to get in on the ground floor of this little tiff as I've had experiance with arguing with Captain Rimjob myself :D

Firstly, this is a stupid re-occuring mindless timeless argument that will never be settled.

Jez is right. You can never appease EVERYONE because rock covers so many genres/songs/scences/trends etc. So from time to time a trend of punk or emo will be played and the metallers will get pissed off. Then there'll be nothing but metal played and it'll piss off the goffs. And so on.

So RockSoc does "the best they can" with a selection of DJs picked to cover as broader span of tastes as is possible.

Anyway this is nothing new. But neither is Jez's tendancy to bite the fucking head off of anything who dares to cross his opinion. So no wonder Marek is feeling a little cornered here. Jez...mate...pal...homoerotic bumchum...back off. Marek's complimenting a good night. Let's take that, raise some Jaig and let the streets ring with shouts of "FUCK YEAH!".

Didn't know it was Marek, didn't care. Can see your point, I just tend to use inflammatory language, what can I say? I like it.

My point was merely that it is hypocritical to come along and bollok the commitee for playing too much pop(rock)* at rocksoc, then to be up dancing to a pop song. Which I saw Marek doing. And it is hypocritical AND elitist, both traits I hate. Everything else I said is window dressing. Think flowerd but swearyer.

Incidentally while we're on the subjct why not put your money where your mouth is. Starting next semester the hunt is on for Rocksoc's DJ as at least 3 maybe 4 of our esteemed group are leaving. So insted of whinging: get involved. Anyway I'd like to do something a bit different with the selection process insted of leaving it up to the commitee's majority vote, so any sugestions on how to handle that side of it are welcome to.

Some ideas to ponder: Open DJ sets on a first come first served basis with voting forms? Or is that too much effort?

Have a night on an "off week" where we listen to all the DJ CDs submitted, anyone who wants a say can come and vote? (I favour this one)

*rock inserted incase people get arsey over word choice. It is The Sinner, pedantry's practically a fucking artform.

How to pick new DJs:

"The decks are right at the end there... I suggest you serpentine..."

THAT WOULD BE THE MOST BRUTAL WAY TO PICK DJS!!!!

6) How shall we choose the new DJs? My idea right now is, after I have enough CDs, to have a listening party at mine or somewhere on a non-rocksoc week. Want to vote? Come along.

I knew there was another reason I voted for you. ;) That sounds like a !@$)*ing awesome idea, I just wish I had a chance to air my Rock yer socks off set! (which is a full 1:40 set rather than CD length, but it could be trimmed...) Depressingly I don't get the oppertunity to rock out every other Thursday anymore. I think making the whole DJ selection process more open is a great idea :)

PS Damn Sinner and its shiteness...

Can't we all just get along?

As for voting, i'd be in favour of a listening party. giving everyone a go at the decks is great in theory. Problem is the practicality. Either you give all the candidates like half an hour in one night, or one guest DJ a night from now until it's done. If you do the first one, it's potentially a ruined night, what with people just sticking on the same sort of songs, or or even the same ones. As much as we all love maiden, I wouldn't appreciate it being played for a fifth of the night! The latter of course has the problem of taking absolutely ages/people not being there/people forgetting, etc. Not to mention that loads of people would have to be taught how the decks work.

Probably easier to just do it via CD.
