Interesting. Last thing I heard, they were making illegal requests for additional fees from people who'd already signed their contracts, and the Students' Association was asking people who'd signed leases with them to come in and have a word on the QT. Obviously this is what was behind it all. Now, unless I'm mistaken, this company owns (or would own, if it wasn't apparently in hock to its eyeballs) the places the tenants are supposed to be staying in - therefore if they go belly-up, I wonder what that means for the tenancies?

James Shield is going to have a job on his hands with this!

Well, it's nearer £10.5 million, they also owe about a grand on electricity back payments, or so I hear.

Anyone know anymore about this? Will it affect next year? That's alot of money to find from somewhere in a short space of time.

I think the current steps to take are:

1. For Christ's sake don't rent from them next year.

2. If you currently rent from them and they're asking you for more money or if you've signed up with them for next year, get in touch with the friendly bods at the students union (email Laura Wilson, the Director of Representation on dorep@).

3. Alternatively, raise some sort of militia and lay siege to the Student Leasing office on South Street. I suggest pitchforks, and some sort of defensive shield, in case they use boiling oil on you.
