Monopoly Board!

This message board is for discussing anything in any way remotely connected with St Andrews, the University or just anything you want. Welcome!

The trick is, of course, to encourage folks to vote at a steady 1/day rate. But have everyone do it! And students love procrastinating, and have more time to do it than alot of people...I'm sure we can try. We also need to hide the fact the competition even exists from everyone else who would vote non-St Andrews. This isn't a democracy, afterall, but a competition...

As publicity officer for psychsoc, i will be sure to stick a poster or three up in the psychology department - other academic societies should do the same ;-)

I can't seem to vote. Have just tried but it keeps saying I have already voted today! Which I haven't. I've tried both email accounts too and it still doesn't let me! :'(

[hr]

It is easier to get forgiveness than permission

Just try again the next day, and try voting from different computers. It won't let me use my different email accounts from the same computer, so I shall vote from the library, Butts Wynd etc later ;) .

As for our position - the next five places on the board are all within the next 160 votes - we can do it!
(Although I am a little scared we'll get to the top and people will stop voting :S)

Durham's gone, and there's less than 20 separating Oxbridge from each other.

50 votes away from Oxford

Postby dohcowboy2 on Mon Apr 30, 2007 12:05 pm

We can now beat Oxford! You can actually vote many times for the same computer, using fake- but real-looking names and emails!

According to the terms and conditions, from the 15th May, until the close of voting, the leaderboard won't be viewable to the public any more. Is it just me or does anyone else think that the monopoly people will then just choose the places they actually want on the board, and justify it by saying that those last couple of weeks saw a change in voting patterns? Which we won't be able to argue with, because we won't have been able to see the leaderboard. In which case, all this voting for St Andrews might not actually do any good....although I'm sure it's got a better chance than e.g. Ashton Gate.

Incidently, we're now at the Strand!

Does anyone else think its bad that St Andrews and Glasgow are the only two Scotish names on the board. My Welsh and Northern Irish geography isn't up to scratch but i get the distinct feeling that there are a disproportionate number of English cities on there. Although i guess there are more people in England than in Scotland. oh well.

Jebus, I almost just put a vote in for Frank O'Hanlon! Silly not-paying-attention-whilst-voting...

Has anyone else noticed that London isn't even on the board anymore? Crazy.

Alot of the towns / cities on the board have universities in them and thus alot of students who will make a group effort like here in St. Andrews. I don't know what happened with London, no-one there must be interested. Given that the traditional Monopoly board consists of places in London anyway I guess they must not be too bothered.

Aberystwyth have also started a facebook group. Although, according the wall in that group, they are missing out on a lot of votes as people are spelling the name of the town wrong!
At least we don't have that problem...
