Hen Night - help required

Postby tramp on Wed Jun 13, 2007 10:51 pm

Please help! I'm chief bridesmaid for a friend and have been asked to organise a hen day / nigth for thurs 28th june. I've been trawling the internet for weeks but nothing has jumped out at me. The groom is American so I have to cater for a wide age range (say approx 18 - 50, to include his relatives coming from th States) and there should be about 18 of us. I thought about venturing to edinburgh where we could do quasar / a city murder mystery / clay pigeon shooting / paintballing etc and then have a wealth of places to choose for dinner. One company also offered a salsa dancing class and cocktail making lesson thrown in with a meal but i hate the idea of it turning into anything sleazy (strippers, pole dancing, fire engines etc) or seeming like some kind of holiday itineray.

I'm in a bit of a pickle though as many of the guests, being students or recent graduates, are on a tight budget, some are coming from Wales and have paid for accommodation in St A for that nigth so i feel we can't really stay and go clubbing in edinburgh and ideally i'd do something cultural to suit the americans.

Many activities have been ruled out for fear of bruising / injuring the bride / bridal party only 48 hours before the main event.

Suggestions please!
Where would you recomend for a meal in St Andrews?

Thanks

I hear the Ladyhead is a riot for strippers.

I'm not sure exactly what it is that you need for a party like that - but as for something traditional, there's always a ceilidh (although danger of bruising) or the improvisation of an out-of-calendar Burns' Night Haggis Meal. There are some great places to eat in style in St Andrews - but then again they may be expensive (thinking about Rusacks etc).

If you want a place to yourself and are quick enough, try the place behind Greyfriar's - I keep forgetting what it is called, maybe Ziggy's? Apparently they have reasonably nice food, and are in a small place that you can have all to yourself with a very unique atmosphere (lots of film memorablia on the walls) that may be just what you want for hosting your own party there.

If you wanted only a venue, you could always try and see if you could get Victory Memorial Hall, or maybe the Cosmos Centre near the hospital. Although then you'd have to spend more time making them look pretty ;) .

In any case, good luck!

Ziggy's is on Murray Place, and has lots of music memorabilia. Great food, decent price, and great atmosphere.

You mightn't want to go to Ziggy's if you have vegetarians in the party, however, because it specialises in steaks and you wouldn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable.

In america we have a million places like Ziggies many of which are better. Maybe coctails in somewhere nice like Bar 40 (back of the golf hotel across the car park from ziggies) and then dinner at the vine leaf or dolls house might be a nicer option.

Well I did suspect but thought I'd risk it anyway in the hope that she was too busy at the moment to be on here! I now know who harmless loony is! I believe we met one day while you were going to the Union to see if you could acquire a small heater for your room?

Now am I very intrigued as to who you are as I don't recall the conversation! lol! Sounds like it was rather a random one! (on the upside I did get a heater for my room in the end!) :)

Anyway can't wait for more random conversations during the hen party! :)
