Graduation?

Looking for some information about graduation: the ceremony, expenses, how many people can attend to watch you, garden party, etc.

For the ceremony, you get two tickets to the ceremony and can request a third. I'm English and had to pay around £40 to graduate. DVD can be purchased outside for £30. Gowns are usually rented from Ede and Ravenscroft (pick them up before ceremony, return same day or have to pay for a week's hire). Book your photographer way in advance. E&R set up in the library but there are other companies set up around the town.

Garden party - two free tickets care of RBS, then about a tenner each for any subsequent ones. Free address book and pen, can buy a t-shirt with class names on it.

I thought Scottish students had to pay a lump sum of around £1000 to graduate as part of the endowment?

It was just over £2000 but now no longer exists, so we will probably have to pay he £40.

When the endowment was in place (and some of us poor bastards still have to pay it...) you still had to pay the General Council fee. It's a legal requirement, oddly enough.

The two are unconnected. There are fees/endownments/whatever and then there is the General Council registration fee, an entirely separate thing.

Don't worry about it until a few weeks before, you get plenty of information then! I didn't even want to think about it until I had finished my last exam.

When should you start looking at booking accommodation?

Prob just after Christmas, but a lot of parents and students stay in New Hall or DRA and they are usually still taking bookings up until the end of term in May.
