if there are things you can use as weapons near by and you're feeling scared, take them into account.. i'm thinking keys, bin lids, sticks, sharp stones, pencils, a belt, anything that could possibly inflict pain.

No. No. No. For some reason this "advice" keeps coming up on here. The law does not allow people to carry objects to use in self-defence. The law only allows people to claim self-defence if they acted only to allow themselves to escape from harm. If you have the time to pick up items to use as weapons then you have the time to avoid a situation.

whats the best way of winning a fight then?

Actually, yes. My mother is a police officer and I'm a karate teacher. If you're stuck in a situation you CANNOT escape from, and there is a bin lid next to you, FUCKING PICK IT UP. i don't mean randomly walk around carrying sticks and knives. but if you're being followed, and you take your keys out of your pocket (Because if you run, and they follow chase, you're going to need them) not only will it be quicker to get into your house, but they can inflict pain and you can claim you hadn't had them with the sole intention of hurting someone, and upon being attacked you didn't think for anything except your own safety and lashed out.
We've had several police officers at the academy who have advocated "safe" methods of self protection such as this.

shockingly, at 25, i've NEVER ever had one. not even at school. 0-0-0, 0 KO's.
why do i ask? the place i'm at is getting dodgy, and i want to be able to defend myself. and i don't want to use weapons, i want to take them out with my bare hands.
i remember someone suggesting jabbing the neck full on in the adams apple and this will floor them in no time. sounds pretty good. any other cool suggestions?
i dont think 'walking away' is too manly?

thing i'm worried about is how far i'll go..sometimes i feel the urge to not just beat them but to go all the way and to not stop until i kill them. rage flicks on like a switch when provoked.
