A St Andrews' Christmas and New Year

Postby Frank on Thu Dec 20, 2007 9:23 pm

Just a thought really, anyone staying up here for the festivities?

My home's only the X24/No.19 away so I'm looking to go back on the 24th, narrowly missing Christmas up here. Has anyone done it before? Anyone doing it this year? What's the plans?

I think if organised well (i.e. a group of friends, or even just a group of anyone) getting together would make for perhaps a really amazing and unique Christmas Day. Certainly, I'm still in two minds about where to spend Hogmanay/NYD, but I'm really looking forward to being around when there's almost no-one else here. Could be enchanting!

(It could also be depressing...)

So, anyone up to much in town this Winterval?

I've spent New Year here twice. Once it was shite the other time it was epic. It really does matter who you spend it with.

This year I'm staying again for New Year, and the people I'm spending it with are ace. Its going to be amazing.

Never done Christmas here. I've always seen Christmas as a family thing, and I don't have any family here.

You don't have family ANYWHERE we've told you before.

Going home for Christmas (somewhat worryingly there's no Christmas decorations yet, hospitals and I've been volunteered for home decorating). Hopefully I'm off to Edinburgh 28-30, so I'll prob end in St Andrews for New Year . . . revising. But there'll be catching up over champagne and cookies in Ed first to make up for it:D Which is more then I'm sure anyone wanted to know . . .

Its an epic 12 miles home on Sunday. Getting my first filling at the dentists on Christmas eve. Christmas day, for the first time ever without the full family (sister is in new zealand).

Don't know about new year. Either here or at home, depends on if theres goign to be enough people to make drinking here worthwhile instead of *cough* working and revising *cough*.

I spent Christmas 2005 in St Andrews. It was the most miserable time of my life. Honestly, there was a three day stretch when I did not see another living soul about town.

Of course, my take on things at the time was coloured by the fact that I supposed to be home for Christmas but couldn't leave the country due to the Home Office taking over three months to process a visa extension application.

I'm staying here over X-mas this year, as I did last year. I'm not too fussed, as I don't traditionally celebrate Christmas. Hell, if anything, it'll be a good opportunity to start studying early (sigh).
